Do you love gel liners? I am sure a lot of you must be loving them, but did you know that you can make gel liners on your own and that too with simple ingredients? Well, do you have black eyeshadows that you don’t use anymore? If the answer is “yes”, wait before you toss them away. You can put it to use for making your very own gel liner.
Let’s look at the ingredients list:
- Black eye shadow or cake liner.
- Forceps or any sharp object to scrape the eyeshadow.
- Petroleum Jelly or Vaseline.
- A spatula or a spoon.
- Clean empty jar.
I had this cake liner which I wasn’t using much, so I have used it here.
Scrape the black eyeliner and transfer it into an empty jar.
Now, take some petroleum jelly and transfer it to the same jar.
Don’t scoop out a lot of petroleum jelly/Vaseline at one go. Take a little, then add some black powered eye shadow, mix it well and swatch it to see the consistency. I would say the ratio should be 3 parts of powered eyeshadow to 1 part of Vaseline. Once you get the right consistency, transfer this gel eyeliner in a clean empty jar with spatula and freeze it for about 15 minutes. Freezing the gel eyeliner allows it to set well.
Okay you are done!
This gel eyeliner isn’t really waterproof but doesn’t smudge or give you raccoon eyes if you use it on lower lash line.
Check the swatches below:

So, this is how you can use your black eye shadows to make your very own gel eyeliner. You can also make coloured gel eyeliners by using different coloured eyeshadows.
Wasn’t that a fun DIY? Do try it out and let me know how it turns out.
