Guerlain Meteorites Perles Light Diffusing Perfecting Primer Review

Hello ladies,

Taking a short break from my lipsticks, I thought I would share with you this Guerlain primer which has been sitting on my vanity top waiting to be reviewed since the last 6 months or more. Look at the gorgeous bottle, absolutely fantastic to look at.  Let’s see how it performs….

What it does:

For skin that seems lit from within, apply Guerlain Météorites Light-Diffusing Perfecting Primer to clean, moisturized skin as an essential first step in any makeup routine. In one step, this extraordinary primer perfects the complexion, and can be used before makeup or on its own.

What else you need to know:

This gel formula is the first makeup base with pearls of light; it contains an exclusive, color-control base to camouflage blemishes and discoloration, and pearlescent extracts to capture and reflect light, blurring the appearance of fine lines without adding shine.

Price:

US $73 / INR 3900

Packaging:

The primer comes packaged in this heavy glass pump bottle. The floating balls of primer look absolutely stunning and very unique! The pump dispenses the product efficiently and one pump is sufficient for your face. The product comes packaged in a black cardboard box – as is usual for all Guerlain products.

My Experience with Guerlain Meteorites Perles Light Diffusing Perfecting Primer:

The product is supposed to be a “color-control base to camouflage blemishes and discoloration, and pearlescent extracts to capture and reflect light, blurring the appearance of fine lines without adding shine.”

When pumped, the product dispensed is an iridescent gel like dollop which when applied to the skin gets absorbed fairly quickly, just like a serum. It does not feel like the normal siliconey velvety primers.

Once applied to the face, it melts into the skin – does not add any colour/tint. So, I am not sure what the company means when it says that the product “camouflages blemishes and discoloration.” The product does not do anything of the sort. It imparts a pearly radiance – the effect is very very subtle, so it can be applied over your moisturizer, not as a primer but as something which makes people think you have really good skin. Honestly, this part of the product would work only if you have good skin and maybe dullness is your only issue. If you have bumps, blemishes, acne – there isn’t going to be much lit from within glow.

Another thing to be kept in mind is that since the radiance effect is so subtle, it would get totally lost under a heavy or even a medium coverage foundation. For this glow to really remain, you need a very light foundation/BB cream/tinted moisturizer.

Now, I like to use medium finish long-wear foundations, which more often than not are matte. So this product was appearing pointless to me till the time I decided to mix a pump of this with 2 pumps of my foundation and then apply. Voila!! I got lovely radiant finish, which didn’t have any sheen, it just felt as if I had naturally good skin. This feel was very different from when I mix a liquid highlighter into my foundation. The latter gives a nice sheen. This, however, kind of made you look as if you had a glow, a radiance and really good skin.

The primer does make my foundation stay put for long.  It increases the wear time by a couple of hours. Though the ingredient list says “silica,” I do not see it doing much in terms of oil control. Another big reason people use primers is to mask the open pores. This primer does not do much in that aspect either.

All said and done, you can get a number of products in the market which can help increase longevity of your makeup. The subtle glow that this one gives is fairly unique, but is it worth 4K? That’s a question between you and your wallet. Do take note that you end up using only one pump of the product at one time, so this bottle will last you a very long time.

To sum this up for you:

Pros of Guerlain Meteorites Perles Light Diffusing Perfecting Primer:

  • Imparts a lovely glow to skin as if you have naturally great skin.
  • Easily spreads and gets absorbed.
  • Pump dispenses adequate amount.
  • Can be used in day or night.
  • The pearly radiance blurs the fine lines.
  • Hygienic pump packaging.

Cons of Guerlain Meteorites Perles Light Diffusing Perfecting Primer:

  • Effects are cosmetic – not lasting.
  • The impact is extremely subtle.
  • The heavy glass bottle is not travel friendly.
  • Does not deliver on all the promises made by the company.

IMBB Rating:

3/5.

The product does nothing to “camouflage blemishes and discoloration.” Yes, it does give an iridescent glow to the skin which is beautiful but very very subtle. I sometimes feel that this entire “lit from within” thing has been done to death! Each new product comes making the same claims and is supposed to be “even better” than the previous one. Stop!! Mera ho gaya!!

Would I Repurchase Guerlain Meteorites Perles Light Diffusing Perfecting Primer?

Probably not.  I think I can achieve more if my primer takes care of controlling oiliness, covering open pores, apart from increasing longevity of makeup. As to the glow, I am okay with a more dewy finish which mixing a highlighter into foundation gives me. I can easily survive on that. I would really urge you to try this product once before you actually shell out the cash.

  1. KK…good morning, I have all kind of skin issues – not for me 😛 but the perles look so cute, pretty packaging 🙂

  2. Looks intriguing..but average performance doesnt make it seem worth the price tag..and I agree these cosmetic company and their taller than burj khalifa claims of their products 😛 !!!

  3. it would have been nice if you had included a picture of the product swatch to show how it actually looks on skin, the color n shine etc. it’s hard to assume the texture of the actual product by just looking at the bottled content.

    1. Shruti, the product just gets absorbed like a serum and their is no shine. The glow is so subtle that the camera wouldn’t catch it.

    1. The glow this gives is a little different from what a highlighter does. But somewhere you have to rationalise whether its worth it at that price point…
