Claims :
The legendary Terracotta Khôl is the promised land for enchanting and mysterious eyes. For summer, the eyes slip into a halo of mystery. Inspired by traditional oriental kohls, this loose powder by Guerlain makes the eyes look bigger and deeper than ever. Highly concentrated with pigments, Terracotta Khôl comes in sublime shades strewn with glimmers of mother-of-pearl in warm, captivating colours.

The luxurious and refined jewel tube is topped with a Moorish-style golden seal and features an applicator stick, a homage to the traditional kohl used by women of the desert. Seduction becomes magnetic…

The line is clean and precise. The result is natural and adjustable with a smoky or sophisticated effect.

Terracotta Khôl comes in two intense oriental shades: Noir and Bleu.

How To Use : Terracotta Khôl can be used in two different ways:
– Eastern-style: take the stick from the tube and glide it between closed eyelids for flickering eyes…
– Western-style: apply the powder to the eye contour to outline the eyes and make them look bigger. The line is easy to apply for an intense and velvety gaze.

My Experience :
I have been wanting to try this Guerlain terracotta kohl since ages now. And wherever I searched for it, it was sold out. It reminded me of the surmedaanis that I used to use as a child. I still have one (the one in the first pic) from Charminar, Hyderabad that my mum gifted me. And she filled it with the home made kajal. 🙂 Guerlain Terracotta Kohl is more of a luxury item that probably you’d buy only because it’s so pretty. The ingredients are nowhere close to natural but that does not make it a bad product at all. Let me list down the pros and cons for you.

  • It is a medium black powder kohl and looks really pretty for a soft day time look.
  • It does not irritate or cloud the eyes.
  • Because of the applicator, the tightening and applying kohl on waterline is a one step process.
  • The powder is very soft.
  • The kohl does not gather on the sides of the eyes.
  • It fades evenly.
  • It has amaaaazing staying power. It stays until I remove the product from my eyes. I mean it stays even after I sleep with this on. 🙂
  • The packaging is sooo gorgeous.
  • It’s best to use the ‘Eastern Way’. The Western way of application…well you’d end up poking the stick in your eye. 😛

Now the cons :

  • I so wish this was a natural product. My Indian-ness makes it difficult for me to believe that a powder kohl is made up of so many chemicals. Guerlain needs to meet my naani. 😛 You can of course, make kajal at home.
  • It is best applied first before you do your face makeup. Because some of the powder kohl always end up falling on the cheeks.
  • I ALWAYS set it with some powder underneath my eyes. Make sure that there is no oil of eye cream or concealer near your eyes after you have applied this kohl. This would smudge so badly, it’s not funny. 😛 But once it sets, it stays on beautifully. I use it almost everyday now. In fact , I also wear this  to the gym because it looks subtle when you use just one stroke of it and it stays on without smudging or smearing.
  • It is definitley expensive for a powder kohl.

Overall, I absolutely love the terracotta kohl. You kind of have to figure out how it works for you but once you do, you get addicted to using this. This has become my part of everyday routine and I so enjoy using this. I think I am going to keep the bottle forever with me just for the keep-sake.  🙂
