We girls are constantly experimenting with our hair whether it is with different hot tools, products, or treatments. For the most part, no matter what we use, the result will always be damaging. Remember back in the day when there weren’t any chemicals or crazy tools? Well, it seems to me that in this fast-paced trendy time of age, we have forgotten the natural remedies that were once used. These natural remedies are simple, easy and right in our kitchen cabinets! Yes, this also means that they are very inexpensive! In this DIY there are two ways that can help you to achieve lighter hair: honey and cinnamon.

Hair Lightening Treatment with Honey

With the honey treatment you need to make sure that you are using good quality honey. Essentially, it would be best for you to use raw, organic honey. You may be wondering how honey helps to lighten hair. Well, honey contains small traces of hydrogen peroxide which has the effect to lighten hair over time without the use of bleach.

honeyThere are two ways to lighten your hair with honey. The first method involves olive oil and honey. There aren’t any precise measurements, simply eyeball how much honey and oil you’ll need for your hair. Obviously if you have long hair you are going to need larger quantities of both ingredients. In addition, for some extra nourishment, you can add half a banana to the mixture. Combine all the ingredients in a jar and mix it until you no longer have any chunks of banana. Because the more chunks you have in your mixture the harder it’ll be for you to remove from your hair. If you want you can use a blender for easier mixing. After mixing everything together, let the mixtures stand for 10 to 15 minutes. This will allow the peroxide to develop. After letting it sit, you can go ahead and apply it to your hair and leave it in for 30 to 40 minutes.

The second way to lighten your hair with honey is with conditioner. In a jar, combine 1 part honey and 2 parts conditioner and again, let it sit and develop for 10 to 15 minutes and then apply it to your hair. Once applied, you can cover your hair with a plastic bag and let it sit for 30 to 40 minutes

After your time is up, wash and style your hair as you would and overtime you will notice your hair getting lighter. The key here and is with any natural DIY is to be consistent! Don’t expect this lightener to show instant results just after a few treatments. It takes times but it definitely works!

Hair Lightening Treatment With Cinnamon

cinamonI had also mentioned lightening your hair with cinnamon and for that all you’ll need is ground cinnamon and conditioner. Mix 1 tablespoon of cinnamon with conditioner and apply it to your hair and leave it in for as long as you can! You will achieve better and faster results if you keep the mixture in your hair overnight. With this treatment expect to see red/auburn coloured highlight in your hair. If you have extremely dark hair and want to go lighter, I would highly recommend you use this method. The only thing you have to be careful about is to not let the cinnamon touch your scalp because it will burn! It obviously won’t burn your hair, but it will give you a burning sensation. On a brighter note, if you let this mixture sit in your hair overnight and use this method 4 to 5 times you can be sure to instantly see a change in colour in your hair. Having had personal experience, I love this method for my dark brown hair as it gives me a lovely subtle hint of red.
