Hashmi Kajal Review

Hi All,
I am very new to writing on blogs but considering my passion for makeup and an equally enticing opportunity on IMBB, I thought of reviewing some makeup products. Since I am a big eye makeup freak I decided to review Hashmi kajal which I bought recently on the advice of one my colleagues.
packet

Kajal has been my most preferred product in my makeup kit since I was 16 years old. Those days my granny used to make surma for me using the soot method. Considering the difficulties( falls down a lot) with applying surma, I shifted to the kajals available in the market. I have tried almost all brands ranging from Biotique to Himalya and my experiences have not been so good with the recently tried ones; may be because of my oily skin all my kajals tend to smudge a lot from the waterline

Coming back to the product which is Hashmi kajal, I would like to add that the product is extremely controversial regarding the lead content in it but considering it is 200 years old and people have been using it for ages and no cases of people going blind or things like that have been reported till date, I bought and started using the same. Ya would also like to mention that in one of the interviews, I read even Vidya Balan uses the same, one more reason for me to try it out.

Well, Hasmi kajal is from a A.Q & Co. in Karachi, Pakistan. It comes in a tube as well a stick. I got the stick one for myself. The price is 30 INR. Here is how it looks:
hashmi kajal product

Hashmi kajal allegedly contains lead but on its website it has all the non toxicity reports. So people can be rest assured of its authenticity and purity, and can use it without any apprehensions.

The website claims:
High Definition Hashmi Kajal Stick is a friendly-flow formula, with a smooth and sleek felt tip that is especially designed by our R&D Dept. to cater your eyes the very-best backstage finishing look to create a more vibrant and dramatic look that madly elaborates your eyes.

Ingredients:
Zinc Oxide, Waxes, Amorphous Black, butter oil, cinamomum camphora.

My experience with Hashmi Kajal

Like I said earlier that I have tried many kajals but all of them smudge leaving me with panda eyes at the end of the day or vanish in 2-3 hours but this being an exception gave amazing results and stayed on for almost 6 hours.I dint have to do the touch ups as well. Although it has to be rubbed on some surface initially to get the smooth texture so it glides on smoothly on the eyes later. These are the swatches of the product:

Pros of Hashmi Kajal

1. Doesn’t smudge , can be worn throughout the day easily for 6-7 hours.
2. Must have for people who have oily combination skin.
3. Very reasonably priced.
4. Gives jet black definition to the eyes, nicely pigmented.
5. Effective for the waterline.
6. Product from a 200 years old company.

Cons of Hashmi Kajal

1. The controversy regarding lead which is enough for a customer not to buy it.
2. Flimsy packaging, the cap might break if it falls from your hands.
3. Doesn’t glide on smoothly when using for the first few times.

Will I repurchase it?
I shall definitely repurchase it since it’s working well for me .

My Rating
4/5 (-1 for the controversy regarding Lead in it)

    1. Finding it in Dehradun was quite a problem Rids, but eventually could trace it 🙂 n local trains….eeeee……that sounds quite substandard to me 🙁 :stars:

  1. Hi Shivani! Nice review 🙂
I have used this one before and I loved it initially…but gradually the stick started getting kinda dry and it became increasingly difficult for me to apply it. But since it is smudge-free and perfect for oily skin like me, I still went ahead and bought another one. But I was in for a shock as the plastic in the center that holds the kajal was jutting out a little and I didn’t even realise it so when I applied it my eye actually got hurt pretty bad!! :pain:
I threw it immediately and have moved on from Hashmi since… :struggle:

  2. Oh I just love this kajal! and I discovered it while I was in Canada. It was available in the Indian grocery stores there. Its biggest pro is that it saves me raccoon-eyes. It doesn’t stay for a long time, but it doesn’t smudge, which is a lot, lot, lot to ask when you have skin like mine. The question is where can I get it here in Mumbai?

      1. ya i have seen the ad of the kajal a very old ad at colaba causeway the box as well as the stick packaging as well as the special kajal for babies .

  3. but it has LEAD,,,,,,,,,,,It was in a fda study done by the U.S. that Lead damages the nerves in your brain and it is very dangerous for your eyes……….. 😮 😮

  8. i have used this kajal for almost forever, atleast since the past 6 years. And trust me when i say it is a beautiful kajal. i totally agree about the first application being too dry, i generally rub the stick on the back of my hand for a few times till it softens to avoid the dryness.

  10. I have heard about this kajal from a friend who got it from Saudi 🙂 . .I wish to buy it too! 😐 Is it easily available in mumbai?? 😐 ?:)

  11. I am a Biig fan of this Kajal. I wear soft contact lenses and have very sensitive eyes. I have tried Kohl sticks/Kajals from Lakme, Biotique, Lotus, Chambor, Eyetex and even Revlon. 3 seconds of contact with my waterline n I having watering, stinging red eyes. This is the only kajal that I have been using for 3 years now that does not irritate my eyes. I am scared of even trying anything else.
