Home Remedies for Blemishes

Suffer from major blemishes? Or even minor for that matter? Don’t worry there is solution not one but many :) that too right on your kitchen counter!

Home remedies using these products work wonders for blemishes:

1. Lemon

Lemon is one of the best home remedies that can be used on the skin. Because of its Vitamin-C properties, it works the best in discoloring spots and lightening the skin. Either squeeze its juice & apply it on the blemish prone areas or rub it directly on those spots. However, it’s recommended to mix it along with something like sugar, rosewater, honey or turmeric powder to tone down its acidic properties as it could be too harsh on the skin. Wash it off after 10-20 minutes of application. Infact the powerful combination of Vitamin C and Alpha- Hydroxy Acid (AHA) can get rid of darkest of blemishes. Form a mixture of orange peel & lemon peel powder and apply it on your blemishes. You can mix rosewater as the mixture could be drying.

2. Honey

Honey’s antibacterial properties make it a great ingredient in home remedies for blemishes prone skin. You can apply fresh honey directly on your skin. However it’s going to be extremely stretchy. Because of this it is good for firming sagging/aging skin too. Honey acts as a disinfecting agent, which decimates all the microbes on the face along with preventing skin pigmentation. Manuka honey which is a special type of honey also has acclaimed antibacterial properties. Try searching for special sterilized version of this honey to apply on the skin. A mixture of honey and turmeric powder or cinnamon powder applied regularly on the blemish marks will reduce them. You can also mix lemon juice with it. Another great way to use honey for reducing blemishes is by putting hot honey on the face and then washing it off with cold water.

3. Tea Tree Oil

tea tree oil
Tea tree oil is a very common ingredient in most of the blemish/acne clearing home remedies as it is an excellent natural antimicrobial agent that combats blemishes preventing the skin from forming any new ones. It is often compared to benzoyl peroxide but is considered to be a better agent as due to its natural composition it has less side effects. You can either use it directly on your individual spots or mix it with other ingredients and apply it on your face as a mask. However when used all by itself, it could leave a strong burning sensation on the skin so it is advised to dilute it with water for sensitive skin. You can also use witch hazel as an alternative to tea tree oil because of its similar properties.

4. Raw Potato

potato
The juice of raw potatoes has exceptional benefits in clearing skin blemishes & other spots. Apply the pulp of sliced raw potatoes as a mask. It will help in clearing the wrinkles and other skin blemishes which might occur due to ageing. Also try rubbing thin shredded sliced of potatoes on the face and other blemish prone body parts before sleeping. Potatoes bleaching agents can lighten marks caused by suntan also.

Thanks for the tips Insiya! Nothing beats home remedies! Even massaging with olive oil is very effective. Not only is it nourishing but also helps lighten acne marks, scars etc but oily skinned people best follow it up with a clay mask so that the pores don’t get clogged.
