How To Make Homemade Eye Makeup Remover

How To Make Homemade Eye Makeup Remover

Hello Everyone,

I am back again with yet another homemade DIY for you beautiful ladies.  I am an ardent eye makeup lover, but to the contrary, I am bad at removing eye makeup. I used to go for cleansing and struggle a lot in removing the liners, mascara and eye shadows. For some lame reason, I had not thought about investing in a good eye makeup remover. This weekend, I was so bored and wanted to do some creative and useful stuff. I decided to make an eye makeup remover all by myself and I successfully did it.

So, let’s get on to see what we need and how to make it:

Ingredients Needed:

If you have kids at home, then you have the ingredients ready any time 😛

  • Baby shampoo – for the no tears factor.
  • Baby oil – for the mild and pleasant smell. You may also use olive/coconut/almond oil, if you wish to make a little more healthier product.
  • Boiled/purified water.
  • Empty container – to store the product.

So, here is how I made the eye makeup remover:

1. Boil a cup of water and let it cool by itself. You may use RO purified water. As we are going to use it on eyes, I didn’t want to risk any infection through water and I boiled the water thoroughly.

2. Now, pour a little baby oil (may be two spoons) into the empty container. Here, I have used an empty hair oil bottle, which is convenient to dispense the product.

3. Next, add a little amount of baby shampoo to the bottle. Shake the bottle so that the oil and the shampoo mixes well.

4. Its time to add the boiled water to the mixture and shake a little.

That’s it. The eye makeup remover is ready. The eye makeup remover smells very mild, but its too good in removing the makeup.

Here is an example of how it works:

I have tried removing Chambor’s eye dazzle liner and the Chambor Jewel Eye Shadow with this eye makeup remover and wow. All the makeup was removed with just a single swipe. I tried removing my kajal from the waterline and believe me girls, it was such a magic with this remover. It did not sting my eyes and it was hassle free.

I was happy and jumping and showing the product to my hubby who was enjoying his weekend afternoon nap.  He was encouraging me to come up with more homemade products. I couldn’t believe I have become so creative that I could prepare my own scrubs/makeup removers. Thank You IMBB!!

This is definitely going to be a money saver. All that you will have to spend is less than 150 bucks.

I hope you all liked this post and will enjoy preparing the home made eye makeup remover.

Have a nice week ahead.  Take Care!

  1. wow…. never thought of adding baby shampoo to the remover…. I liked how you said:If you have kids at home, then you have the ingredients ready any time…. hehe… will definitely try this…thanks for sharing:)

  2. Hi Rama,

Keep bringing on these DIY’s. What you have showed is pretty easy to make and effective too, will definitely try it out 🙂

  3. I simply use olive oil for removing eye makeup. All I do is put 10-12 drops of olive oil to a cotton swab and wipe it on my eye. It removes evey kind of eye make-up from eye shadow to water-proof mascara and e/l. Its pure magic. It has improved my lash growth drasticaly 🙂

    1. Cool. I would use it too.. I could never believe just plain oil could remove makeup like this. and Rama.. very well done! I will try it too.. though I hardly put eye makeup but this is going to be my skin make up remover as well. 🙂

      1. Thanks Surabhi..I’ve not tried as skin makeup remover..should give a try tomorrow evening when I return from office 🙂

  5. Rama.. Your DIYS are so awesome!! I love how you make things out of scratch !! I’m making this for sure 🙂

  6. As the author herself mentioned, I think the safest bet would be to use olive oil as eye-makeup remover.

Here is what I found regarding Johnson baby shampoo: http://www.forbes.com/sites/amywestervelt/2011/11/01/as-report-reveals-toxic-ingredients-in-baby-shampoo-johnson-johnson-goes-public-with-plans-to-clean-up-products/

Please read the ingredients on the label and make sure the mentioned toxic chemicals are not a part of the product before using.

    Just my two cents…

    1. Thanks Ranju for sharing this piece of info..I just went with the brand name J&J.I really got ot check the ingrediens..

  9. Wow awesum DIY!! I usually use olive oil or johnson baby oil for removing eye makeup.. This is a good alternative for the rest of the face.. Thankys! 😀

  10. Wow Rama, this is the most creative thing I have found on IMBB. If my 18months old one will let me, I will use her things and it’s so convenient too! Thanks a lot. Mmmwwwaah!

  11. Thats pretty cool and creative !!! Although it seems like far too much work – I just use plain old coconut oil to remove all my eye make up, its truly SST for me 😀

  12. I love the idea of DIY products, however from my past experience of being a makeup artist for the past 20+ years using any type of OIL around the eyelashes and lash line that is not removed completely will affect your eyeliner, mascara and eye shadow the next day-it will gently slide off. If you need to take a waterproof liner or mascara off then use an oil based remover.
