Homemade Toners for Oily Skin

We all know the importance of good cleansing, toning and moisturizing routine for our skin. I won’t go into the details of it instead, I will focus on the easily available home goodies that can be combined together to make an effective all natural toner for people who need most help in summers- Oily skinned beauties.

As a general rule opt for alcohol free toners to hydrate, revitalize, soothe and balance the pH of the skin. Toners that contain alcohol over stimulate oily skin to produce more undesirable oil.

Have a look at few homemade toners that will help you clean, calm and sooth your skin.

Spearmint and Chamomile Toner

Pour spearmint, tea bags and chamomile tea bags separately in ½ cup of hot water and leave the bags in for 1 hour. Remove them and then add 1/4 cup of carrot juice, 1/ 4cup of cucumber juice and 1/2 cup of lemon juice in it. Pour this mixture in a spray bottle and shake well. Carrot is bursting with the goodness of vitamin A and lemon is replete with AHA which keeps your skin young for long.

Aloe Vera Toner

Apply pure aloe vera juice as you would any other toner. This is most suitable for oily skin but can be soothing to sunburned or wind burned skin. It is not recommended for extremely dry skin. If you find aloe vera too drying, dilute with up to 50% distilled water and then apply on your face.

Sweet Orange Toner

Pour ½ cup witch hazel in a glass jar and add 10 drops sweet orange essential oil in it. Shake well to blend the ingredients together. Store in an airtight bottle and use it whenever you like.

Mint-Vinegar Toner

Take 1 tablespoon dried mint leaves and 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar in a glass jar. Add 1 cup distilled water in this mixture and cover the jar. Allow to sit undisturbed for three days. Strain out the mint leaves and pour toner into a clean container with a tight fitting lid.

Witch Hazel and Apple Vinegar Toner

Take 2/3 cup witch hazel, 1/3 cup apple vinegar in a clean bottle. Add few drops of lavender essential oil (or any other essential oil of your choice) in it. Shake bottle well before using, and then dampen a cotton ball or pad saturated with your toner, and swab over face. Witch hazel is a gentle astringent, apple cider vinegar will help restore your skin’s natural pH balance, and lavender soothes sensitive skin.

Neem Toner

Shred about 1 cup neem leaves and clean them thoroughly. Now bring one and a half cups of water to a boil and put the leaves in it, close with a lid, turn off the flame and wait till it cools down. Take out the leaves after 30-40 minutes and then strain the water in a clean bowl. Pour this water in a clean dry spray bottle and store in the refrigerator.
