Hourglass No. 11 Smudge Brush Review

Hello everyone,

This review will be on the Hourglass Smudge Brush.

Hourglass No. 11 Smudge Brush

Product Description:

A small, precision eye shadow brush.

What it does:

The short, dense bristles of this brush allow eye shadow colors to be applied, blended, and diffused with maximum control. Expect polished, professional results every time. All Hourglass brushes boast weighted metal handles and high-grade, PETA-friendly taklon bristles that ensure optimal application of product.

What else you need to know:

Taklon bristles harbor less bacteria than animal hair, are an excellent alternative for those with allergies to animal hair, and are easily washed with alcohol or mild soap and water.

My Experience with Hourglass No. 11 Smudge Brush:

I love Hourglass brushes and this brush is no exception. I have reviewed the Hourglass All Over Shadow Brush and crease brush in the past and you can see the side-by-side comparison of the brush sizes in the picture attached.

Packaging:  This brush does not come in any box. I am glad for this as customers almost always throw away boxes and that’s unnecessary wastage.  The brush has a sleek gunmetal handle. It is not too heavy, but it is not too light in weight.  It definitely has some weight which makes it sit extremely comfortably in the hand. I will complain here a bit about the length of the brush. I am someone who does my eye makeup extremely close to the mirror hence almost all the time, the brush end seems to tap on my mirror.

Bristles:  All of the hourglass brushes are made with high-quality taklon bristles. The bristles on this brush are very small, dense and stiff, yet they are still very soft and smooth. The edges are not cut harshly and they do not poke. This small size is extremely easy to work with and I can get precise smudging of eye shadow on my lower lash line and I can even smudge eyeliner with it. The small shape will even work great for those with smaller eye shapes.

The synthetic bristles are a huge advantage as I can use my alcohol-based spot cleaners on them without fear of damaging the bristles.

Hourglass No. 11 Smudge Brush

Overall, I love this brush and this has become a staple in my eye look routine. They are a bit pricey, but I would prefer having one good quality brush instead of many low quality ones in my collection any day.  I will recommend this brush.

Pros of Hourglass No. 11 Smudge Brush:

  • Synthetic bristles.
  • Not harsh on the eyes.
  • Small shape perfect for smudging shadow and eyeliner on the lower lash line.
  • Sleek handle.
  • Cleans easily with alcohol-based cleanser.
  • Does not shed at all.

Cons of Hourglass No. 11 Smudge Brush:

  • Expensive.
