How To Do Nail Art At Home (II)

Second part of the series How To Do Nail Art At Home

Nail art, the practice of painting pretty designs on your fingernails, is a fun way to brighten up your everyday look or accessorize a special occasion outfit. There are a variety of nail art designs available, ranging from subtle and understated to funky and outrageous.

Getting nail art done at a salon can cost you Rs.300 and above depending on the designs. Some people are willing to shell out this much money to prettify their nails but being a student and that too a non earning student I don’t like spending hundreds of rupees on something that will last just 7 days. I’d preferably buy a Colorbar blush (will last me at least 7 months) or a The Body Shop lip balm (will last me for 7 weeks) for 300 bucks rather than getting nail art done on my nails. But I totally love my nails and I like to decorate and prettify them a lot. So rather than going to a nail bar I do nail art on my own. Some people feel they are artistically challenged and have shaky hands and they won’t be able to do it on their own. But I’m telling you it is possible and if you have 20 mins in your hand you will be doing nail art just after reading this post.

You don’t need to buy anything for this tutorial you must be having everything with you already, I’m sure. No need to buy nail art brushes or nail art pens not even dotting tools.

Generally people have problems with nail art that involves drawing lines. So my first nail art post won’t be having any lines at all so that it is easier for everyone to recreate it.

Thing required:

  • 1 base coat
  • 2 different color nail paints, im using yellow and pink
  • 1 top coat
  • 1 toothpick

things required

Step 1: Paint your nails with a base coat. Let it dry.

base coat

Step 2: Now apply 2 coats of whatever nail paint color you like.

Step 3: Taking a contrasting color, draw 5 dots on the upper corner of your nail as show in the pic. Take a small drop of nail paint on a paper and dip the opposite end of the toothpick in the paint to get a little paint on it. Don’t overload it. Start making the dots from the outer edge of your nails. Because if you start from the inner side sometimes due to misjudgment there is no place left for the dot at outer edge. Don’t do it on all the nails do this on one nail and jump to step 4.

Step 4: Taking the pointed side of the toothpick from the center of each dot drag the toothpick towards the center of the dots you made. Don’t worry if in the process you drag even the base coat with it.

drag dots

Repeat step 3 and 4 for all the remaining nails one by one. Now if you want you can stop at this only.

Step5: Now taking the pointed edge of the nail paint draw small dots on the opposite side of the flower.

Step 6: Now just give your prettified nails a top coat, so that your hard work lasts longer.

I did my thumb differently, to show you a variation. You can make 2 flowers like this. Or you can do your thumb and ring finger alike and the rest 3 alike. I do that some times.

Ta da.. wasn’t it easy.. im sure you will will be able to recreate this for yourself. Any queries and questions are always welcome . 🙂

Some tips on nail art:

1. You can make a lot of designs just with the help of dots. You just have to be creative enough or you need to know how to use google.
2. Keep cleaning your toothpick with a piece of paper every now and then so that the nail paint doesn’t dry on it and makes a little goopy kind of deposit there. The deposit leads to uneven dots.
3. Use paper and not cotton or tissue because the lint in both would get stuck to it.
4. Before the top coat make sure that the nail art has dried completely.

I don’t know whether you people would like the post or not, but I’m sure you will like that I did something else than a fitness posts 😉
