How To Make Exfoliating Face and Body Wash – Do It Yourself

How To Make Exfoliating Face and Body Wash – Do It Yourself

Hey all,

So, after a homemade Diwali, I tried my hands at some homemade beauty products. I think some major DIY genie has gotten into me and do you know who that genie is? Our very own Jomol 😀 hihihi

I got this TBS cocoa butter body wash long time back, used it for a while and later dropped it because it made me feel as if it was not cleaning enough. You know that feeling of some oily stuff on your body when we use some extra moisturizing body wash or something that we feel on using Dove soap? Though this body wash is a must-have and is heavenly moisturizing for Delhi and North Indian winters, it is not much of use here in Andamans, so I thought of putting it to a better use.

Let me know what you think of this new product that I made. 😀

Things you would need:

Sea salt (you can use ordinary salt or sugar as well), a hand, face or a body wash, some body oil (only if your wash is drying in nature).

How To Make Exfoliating Face and Body Wash:

1. Get some sea salt. If you do not have sea salt, you can make it. I have explained it later how to make sea salt at home. Or else, you can even use the normal salt or sugar or even a salt/sugar mix!

2. Get a body wash or a hand wash or a face wash.

3. Mix the two.

4. Store in a jar.

5. Ready!

Here are a few notes:

Note 1:

How to make sea salt – collect some fresh sea water in a pan. Boil it on stove for about 20-30 minutes and you have fresh, white salt.

Else, you can also dry it off under the sun for 2-3 days as this will save you a lot of gas.  If you are drying it under the sun, cover the pan with a cotton cloth as this will save it from dirt, pollution etc.

Note 2:

If you have a body wash, face wash or hand wash that is drying in nature, add a bit of olive oil to it.

If you do not have olive oil, you can add glycerin to hand wash or body wash, but for face wash, it is better to add oil. Any oil it can be – olive, almond or Aroma Magic Beauty Oil.

Note 3:

Sea salt has a tendency to lose water.  So, even if you keep sea salt just like that for a while, it would get runny in consistency. But do not worry. This just proves your salt is pure and natural.

Note 4:

If you want to further customize your wash, add any ingredient that you want. Like peppermint oil, but remember tea tree and peppermint are a little drying in nature.

Final Word:

I am super elated since the time I have tried this. I have been using it for 2-3 days and I am in love with this homemade scrub. I wash my hands daily with this and then apply a hand cream and the result –  “Twacha jo chhoone ko dil kare.” 😉 hihihi

Have a lovely day everyone!

  1. wow……this is super easy peazy !! I do not have sea salt but i would use normal salt + sugar mix & see how this works 🙂 Thanks

  2. Hmmm Surabhi you are really making awesome DIY posts. Can I restore and use for 2 -3 days or I have to prepare it every day for using?

  3. “Collect some fresh sea water in a pan” ? Very easy to say for person living in the Andamans! 😉
Jokes apart, this scrub has some great ingredients Surabhi. I cant imagine how this would not work! 🙂

  4. very very good tute surabhi. :)) i am making it right away. seriously this would prove to be such a boon in winters. :)) i’d try with salt + sugar mixture. in a few days we might have snow but now salt water door door tak. 😛

    1. hihihihi.. Rati.. now toh you MUST come to Andamans and I will give you lots of water bottles packed with pure, fresh salt water.. and you can use it anytime. 😀

And this is really awesome.. keeps my hands super soft. And you guys are lucky.. yahan to sardi ka naam hi nahi hai.. I miss dilli ki sardi..

  5. Nice DIY surbhi, I try most of ur DIYs ….
One question….. Where can I get sea salt in cities… I mean some brands sell them?
And is sendha namak is same as sea salt?

    1. Dear Sweta,

I am soooo sorry I have no answer for your questions. 🙁 I dont know where we can get sea salt but yes Soul flower sells some bath salts. You can use those. And no idea about sendha namak.. maybe you can try it for once.. like mix a bit of sendha namak with a bit of body wash.

      1. Thanks for trying surbhi…. 🙂
I read that sendha namak aka rock salt is purest form of salt compared to the iodised salt… So I hope that will do well ….

  6. Nice DIY, Surabhi! I tried a salt scrub once and it revealed every bloody minor cut or bruise on my body (I tend to bump into things) and also, the assortment of swear words that my tongue can utter in moments of pain. 😛 I believe I am going to try this one with brown sugar instead. This will keep my winter dryness in check. 😀
