Not everyone has chiseled features, but certain makeup techniques if used correctly can give you angular and chiseled look, and also thereby making your face appear slimmer than it is. Also, if you have rounder face and want to take some pounds off with the help makeup, there’s nothing wrong with that. With the help of makeup, you can create an illusion of an angular face and its only a temporary method to make the face appear slimmer. Additionally, you can wear long dangle earrings or frame the face with bangs to get the desired result. But since we are talking about using makeup techniques to get the desired effect, let’s get to those first:
1. Bronzer Technique:
If you apply the bronzer correctly, you can create contours to make the face appear sharp. For this, use a bronzer which is one shade darker than your skin tone. Suck in your cheeks to find the hollows. Accentuate them by using a matte bronzing powder. This makeup trick will create a light shadow effect on your face which will make your face look thinner. Apply the bronzer also to the sides of the nose. Apply bronzer under the cheekbones. To contour jawline, pick a bronzer that’s two shades darker than your skin tone under the jawline. This will give you the desired effect. To hide double chin, apply bronzer along the jawline and blend in the bronzer to create a nice contour.
2. Contouring with Foundation:
Choose a foundation two shades darker than your skin tone. Do not pick too dark a foundation, otherwise it may draw too much attention to what you are trying to hide. Start with applying the darker shade from the center of the cheek to the ear and blend in nicely. Blend in the darker shade to the temples and hairline to give your face a sculpted look.
3. Use Natural Tone or Neutral Blushes:
Choose a blush which is not too stark on your skin tone. Also blend in the blush properly. If you go wrong with the blush, it tends to highlight the roundness of your cheeks 😛 Pick a blush which looks natural on your skin tone, lighter skin tones can opt for pink or peach coloured blushes whereas dark skin tones have a plethora of choices like MAC Ambering Rose, MAC Format Blush etc. Check out Rati’s post on 10 MAC blushes for dusky skin tones here.
4. Smokey Eyes:
Go for bold eye makeup or smokey eyes to take off the attention from other areas of your face. Let the eyes be the center of attention and use neutral lip colours on the lips.
5. Add length to eyebrows:
With the help of brown eyebrow pencil, lengthen the eyebrows. Short eyebrows makes the face appear round and full.
6. Highlighting Technique:
Use a good-quality highlighter in the area between your brows, on the bridge of your nose, and on the cupid’s bow to draw attention to these areas and away from the fullness of your face.
7. Eyebrows – Thin is Definitely Not In:
Eyebrow shapes can make or break the look. For any face shape, thin eyebrows do not work, they make the face look plump and rounder, hence opt for medium thickness eyebrows.
