My Experience with Illamasqua Colour Intense Lipstick – Atomic:

Color:  This is a hot pink bright pink bordering on red fuchsia.  Not very unique by itself, but definitely a colour which would flatter a number of skin tones as long as you are comfortable carrying it off.

Texture:  After trying such lovely products as YSLs and Estee Lauder’s, the texture on this one is a bit of a letdown. It’s fairly dry and does not feel creamy at all. When you apply it, you can actually feel the dryness on your lips. It doesn’t really apply in a tug or pull, but it still feels very dry.  The finish is total matte and unforgiving on dry lips. It didn’t seem to dry my lips further, like MAC mattes do, but it’s not hydrating at all.  While wearing it, you can feel the thick texture.  Considering how fabulous the lipstick textures are in today’s world, even mattes, I find this product extremely dated.

Pigmentation:  The pigmentation of the lipstick is good, about 85% colour deposit in one swipe. But the texture makes you go over the lips again and again to get even coverage on the lip contour.

Lasting Power:  I got about 6-6.5 hours of wear time, post which it fades into a pink stain. However, if I eat a meal with it, most of it does disappear.

Cons of Illamasqua Colour Intense Lipstick – Atomic:

  • Unavailability in India.
  • Very dry texture.
  • Not hydrating at all.

IMBB Rating:

3/5.

Let’s just say, I am not lining up to pick more colours from this range. As I said earlier, brands have really upped their game in terms of providing great pigmentation with fantastic texture. Estee Lauder’s Envy line is a great example of this. Maybe it’s not fair to compare something from older times to something as new as “Envy,” but that’s what it brings to the fore, that this is from an earlier era and needs a revamp badly! Though the color is fab, the texture leaves a lot to be desired.

    1. Trust me, they are poles apart Jomol! I really feel everyone should try at least 1 EL lippy!! It really is a class apart. While this, though a pretty colour – I’m not happy!

  1. back-to-back two lippies….both gorgeous pinks…. *drool* *drool*
wow KK, u always manage to pick droolworthy stuff…..but the hydration factor is very imp for me in a lippi….must say u rock any shade…

    1. Thanks Anuradha for your sweet words! Yes, back-to-back lippies, isn’t it fun!!! Hydration is way important for me too!

  2. *thankyou* so much for the review KK, my bro lives in UK so i had already selected stuff from Illamasqua, including lippies, but i think i should change my mind, i don’t know about the blushes and highlighter, the highlighter seems really unique…..but….may be i need to spend more time exploring reviews before making a purchase! 🙂

    1. Honestly SUmera, I think you should give the lippies a pass. Save the money for something else instead. Their INTENSE Lip glosses are amazing – high on pigmentation like a liquid lipstick. Try 1 of those instead. I’ll review the one i have soon.

Their blushes are good – I have Hussey – its definitely good quality. And their Cream highlighter in Aurora is supposed to be amazing but I haven’t tried it myself. Happy shopping!

      1. waiting for the blush and liquid lipstick review, hope it doesn’t turns out to be drying ! ahan Hussy, i have been eying S-O-P-I-E and aurora … let’s see when i be able to get them *specs*

    1. Im guessing you like the colour Serena and have it in your stash! I like the shade but not the effort which goes with it! Better products available at that price point!

  3. The color looks WOW on u kk… And heard a lot about this brand and this shade in particular…. So disappointed it was a letdown

  4. You are such pro to carry these pink shades sooo well .
I love this shade i wish i could carry it with such ease like you.
I dont wantu miss your reviews on lippies n others too …as you always come up with fantastic product.
