Kiehl’s Blue Herbal Gel Cleanser

IMBB Sponsored Product Review

Hi everyone,

First things first, again a big thankyou to Rati and Sanjeev Ji for letting me pick up the product last month which was always in my wishlist. It is such a great feeling to be showered with gifts every month, our secret santa is right here on IMBB.  Continuing with the product, I chose to review Kiehls Blue Herbal Gel Cleanser. I have heard a lot of positive comments about this cleanser from my friends who have problematic skin. Please read on further to find out how it fared on my skin.

My take on Kiehl’s Blue Herbal Gel Cleanser:

Before I start with my experience, I would like to describe my skin type. It is oily and acne prone with visible open pores. I have battled acne for the last 10-12 years and I am yet to find a permanent cure for it. I also believe that no creams or face washes can stop the occurrence of acne as it is an internal problem but at the same time some healthy skin habits (proper CTM being one of them) can help to keep the skin free from the bacteria. I always wash my face twice daily howsoever tired I may be. When I first looked at the bottle, two things intrigued me, first was the presence of salicylic acid and second was the name herbal. It is blue coloured semi thick liquid with a medium consistency. This cleanser comes in an elongated plastic bottle with a flip top cap which can open as a screw cap also. Both the openings are tight and won’t spill the liquid. As far as carrying it during travelling is concerned, I think it doesn’t really make sense to carry a 250 ml bottle. Also less is enough with this cleanser. You just need very little quantity (may be less than half the coin size) for the entire face. I have been using it twice daily for more than a fortnight but not even 10% of it is finished. The cleanser lathers well only when you mix a bit of water in it, no wonder it contains SLS. It gives a cooling sensation to the face which lasts till the time you wash off your face with water, may be for a few seconds more. It smells of vicks when it is on the face but nothing that will bother you, in fact the refreshing cool smell makes washing the face quite a pleasant experience. It comes off easily with few splashes of water on the face. There is no smell which lingers on the face afterwards. Also, no whitish caste is observed. Accidentally it went inside my eyes while groping for the tap 😛 and it stung badly, so i will advice all to keep the eyes closed while washing. Coming to its efficacy, it has helped in drying any lesions on the face but it dint stop the newer ones from popping. I still get the ugly pimples on the face. My skin though feels squeaky clean but at the same time a bit stretchy which could be because of salicylic acid or winters or may be both. I have to apply moisturiser post washing my face. There is no visible difference in the pore size or the skin texture. The stubborn acne marks are also intact, giving it the benefit of doubt, may be it needs more time to show results on the blemishes.

Cons of Kiehl’s Blue Herbal Gel Cleanser:

1. It is not true to its claim. I mean how can you call a face wash herbal when you have whole lot of chemicals in the ingredients list.
2. Stings the eyes.
3. Contains parabens and SLS.
4. Did not stop the acne from appearing on the face.

Will I repurchase/ Do I recommend Kiehl’s Blue Herbal Cleanser?

It is a mild face wash which does its job effectively though not miraculously. Also, less is more. A 250 ml bottle will last for at least 6 months or so. This way it is quite cost effective. I think I will not repurchase it because my derma has advised to stay away from products which are loaded with chemicals and this one unfortunately is! As far as recommendation goes, I think oily skinned beauties can give it a try once.
