LA Girl Smoky Beauty Brick Eye Shadow Collection Review

LA Girl is a Los Angeles based makeup company, which is known for its professional makeup collection at very affordable prices. This palette is a part of its Beauty Brick Collection of four palettes. I have reviewed 2 palettes here. The first one was L.A. Girl Nudes Beauty Brick Eyeshadow Collection, which turned out to be of a pretty good quality and wise for its price but the second one L.A.Girl Neons Beauty Brick Eyeshadow Collection was definitely a dud. Here, I am going to review the third palette in line, LA Girl Smoky Beauty Brick Eye Shadow Collection.

My Experience with LA Girl Smoky Beauty Brick Eye Shadow Collection:

Packaging:
It comes in a black cardboard box with a transparent window provided on the lid to take a peak inside. The lid has a magnetic enclosure. It is not at all travel safe palette. The lid can open very easily in the bag and can create a mess out of nowhere. ‘LA Girl Eye Shadow Collection Smoky’ is written on top of the lid. At the back, all the details like ingredients, manufacturing, weight, etc., details has been included. The product amount by weight is 12gm, which means 1gm of each eye shadow.

When we open the lid, we see the product embedded on a pink base and a mirror on the back of the lid. The mirror is a very sleek one and will not be able to fit a face or even an eye in it. There is also a dual sided applicator provided with a brush on one side and a sponge tip on the other side. Brush and mirror both fail to prove their worth in the palette.

Texture:
This palette has both shimmer, metallic and matte shades. I have numbered all the shades to specify them separately.

The 3rd, 6th, 7th, 8th and 12th shades are matte shades. Matte shades are on the drier side but not a lot of color spillage. They are not chalky. These shades are blendable and buildable. The texture of these shades is not very smooth. You can feel the powder between your fingers. The 8th shade did apply a bit patchy.

The 11th shade has a satin finish. It is one of the smoothest shade in the palette. It has no patchiness and is easily blend-able and buildable.

The 4th, 5th, 9th and 10th shades have metallic finish with fine shimmer in them. It has no patchiness and has a smoother texture compared to the matte shades. There is not much fallout.

The 1st and 2nd shade are two shades, which have ample amount of shimmer specks in them. When you apply them, then you may get little glitter particle here and there. You have to be careful. Texture is smoother than the matte shades.

All the shades are on the softer sides. So, using synthetic brush provided with the palette may harm them. The use of natural bristle brush is suggested.

Pigmentation:
I would like to describe the pigmentation of all the shades separately:

The 6th, 7th, 8th and 12th shades are basic brown matte shades. The pigmentation is optimum. They can be build up by using mixing medium.

The 3rd one is a light gray color, which is a necessary color to include in a smoky palette.

The 11th shade is of a dark deep Navy blue color. The darker colors on finger swatch appear pigmented but sheer out a lot after blending. It is perfect for blue smoky eyes.

The 4th, 5th, 9th and 10th are the most pigmented of the lot. The 4th is a shimmery gray color. The 5th one is of a shimmery taupe shade. The 9th and 10th are shimmery brown and shimmery purple shade. They are very pretty shades, which can be adjusted for different smoky looks.

The 1st and 2nd are glittery highlighting shades in cream and silver color. I do not like these shades that much but they are essential part of smoky eyes.

The matte shades are comparatively less pigmented than the rest of the shades.

Staying Power:
It stays on eyes without fading or creasing for upto 4-5 hours. I had to use primer to build up the color. I did not try it with mixing medium though.

Pros of LA Girl Smoky Beauty Brick Eye Shadow Collection:

  • Very affordable.
  • No chunky cheap glitters.
  • Good amount of product.
  • Decent staying power.
  • Workable pigmentation.
  • Texture overall was good

Cons of LA Girl Smoky Beauty Brick Eye Shadow Collection:

  • Lot of fillers.
  • Flimsy packaging

IMBB Rating:
3.5/5

  1. Great review! It seems to be a great option for starters. I would have bought this but I like my eye shadows to be more pigmented and less powdery! Shade selection is beautiful! xx
