Lancome Miracle Cushion Liquid Cushion Compact Review

Hi beauties!

Lisa Eldridge is one beauty artist, whom I do admire a lot. She did some really good work with Chanel, and when she joined Lancome last year, good things were just waiting to happen. Lancome is known for its superb quality foundations and with Lisa on the team as the Global Creative Director, plus with her recent trip to Korea, the “gwang” effect was just about to hit us! Early this year, Lancome launched its first ever cushion foundation. Now, cushion makeup products are not a novelty. At least not in Korea and the Far-East countries. But, the rest of the world was yet to experience the magic of cushion, and when I heard this launch by Lancome, I just had to get it.

Lancome Miracle Cushion Liquid Cushion Compact Review6

It is not a novel product, it is not available in India, and it was available in only 6 shades in the UK when first launched (though it was released in 11 shades in the USA). It is extremely expensive for the amount of product (nearly 46 USD for 15ml product, whereas normal foundations usually have 30 ml product for a lesser price). I got this product from UK, where the shade numbering system is different from the US variant and I have been using this for the past two weeks now. I shade I selected is called #03 Beige Peche.

Product Description:

Lancome Miracle Cushion Liquid Cushion Compact Review2

What it is:
A color-true, liquid foundation in a unique cushion sponge that seamlessly delivers light to medium coverage while hydrating the skin.

What it does:
This oil-free Miracle Cushion Liquid Cushion Compact creates a dewy finish for a polished glow. Its innovative cushion sponge contains over 800,000 pores to transfer the ideal amount of product for an effortless makeup application. This multitasking formula is infused with skincare actives that give skin a boost of intense hydration, delivering a cooling sensation while brightening the appearance of skin. Miracle Cushion provides the benefits of a BB/CC cream while offering the benefits of light to medium coverage found in a liquid foundation. Simply give this foundation compact an easy tap for light coverage, and then give it a heavier tap for more coverage. Suspended in a cushion sponge, the liquid is enclosed in an air-tight compact for convenient portability.

What else you need to know:
If you want a more precise application, I think it’s really useful just to fold the applicator in half and use that for those tricky-to-reach areas: so around the sides of your nose, under your nose, around the edge of your face, or underneath your eyes. And if you do find that you need extra coverage, use your concealer on top. It will blend really easily on top of your Cushion.—Lisa Eldridge, Lancôme Makeup Global Creative Director

This product is non comedogenic and dermatologist-tested.

My Experience with Lancome Miracle Cushion Liquid Cushion Compact:

Lancome Miracle Cushion Liquid Cushion Compact Review

In UK, this product is launched in 6 shades, from 01 to 06. In the USA, there are 11 shades, and the numbering system is slightly different as well. I got this in the shade 03 Beige Peche. I am NC30/35 in MAC and this matches me perfectly after blending.

Packaging: It comes in a regular Lancome silver colored box packaging. All the details are written on the box. Inside, there is a small tub, which holds the foundation. The tub has a silver colored screw top and on opening it, we get an application sponge. Underneath, is another plastic cover which opens and shuts with a click and protects the foundation inside. It also prevents it from drying out. Underneath, there is a sieve like cover-cushion which holds the foundation. The sieve has multiple tiny holes in it. The cushion is really like a sponge…bouncy and filled with liquid foundation.

On pressing the sieve/cushion, we get the foundation. Just to test it out, I inverted the tub and there was not even a single drop of leakage or spillage at all. Really amazing, though not new concept. The small tub packaging along with the sponge really allows one to carry it inside your purse and do any touch-ups whenever needed.

Shade: This is available in 6 shades in UK, and I got it in the shade 03. This shade is a warm toned beige shade which should suit you well enough if you are MAC NC30/35, shade 03 in Lancome foundations and shade Barcelona in NARS foundation. It does look a bit dark in the pot and on swatch too, but sheers out to match your skin tone perfectly on blending. This shade did not oxidise on me at all. So, no fears of the shade getting darker with time.

Sponge: I would like to describe the sponge too, since it is present inside the tub. The sponge, I feel, is soft, smooth, made of polyurethane. It is good, but nothing very marvellous. It is definitely washable, but some stains are harder to remove. You can use any makeup sponge from MAC or any other brand and get the same results. I have used my beauty blender and my Real Techniques Expert Face Brush with this and both of them apply it perfectly. You may also use a flat foundation or blending brush with this, if you are comfortable with brushes; but the coverage will be slightly more with brushes compared to sponges.

Usage: You have to gently push the sponge into the cushion. Gently because the cushion is really soaked, drenched with product. Then for a sheerer effect, you have to apply it in swiping motions all over the face. If you need more coverage, just dab the sponge on those areas, but it will never give anything more than light to medium coverage. The sponge makes it easier to get into all nooks and corners of the face. If you have pigmentation or scars, better get to those with a concealer instead.

Consistency: Frankly, I have never quite used such a product before in my life. I have used powder foundations, stick foundations, creamy foundations and even the more sheerer ones like MAC Face and Body foundation. This foundation is more wet, more watery and dewy than even the most sheer foundations you have ever used. It is an extremely lightweight foundation, and your skin will feel almost devoid of any makeup at all. I really feel it allows my skin to breathe freely and my skin feels really healthy. It gives a really cool sensation on the skin during application which I am really liking during this super hot summer.

Coverage: I quite like sheer foundations and this one also gives sheer coverage. It is buildable of course, but only up to medium coverage. The good point is that upon adding more layers, you will never get a cakey appearance at all. On the coverage point, Lancome gives it 2/4 which means it is a slightly medium coverage foundation. It has an SPF of 23 and does photograph quite nicely

Best for: Normal to dry skin types. Just like any other sheer and runny foundation, even this one suits the dry-skinned people better. Oily skinned people may still apply it, but will need to top it with some powder. It does not cling to any pores and gives a very nice, smooth, almost airbrushed kind of appearance. And, the major selling point here is that there are refill cases available for a lesser price. So, once you are done with your first cushion, you just need to push it from the bottom and the empty cushion pops out and then, you insert your refill cushion in the tub.

Staying Power: It lasts the entire day on me i.e. around 7-8 hours without any primer or touch-ups. For longer day duration, I do need to touch up a bit on the oilier areas of my face and here the built in mirror really helps me out. It may last longer during winters and in AC conditions.
