Laura Mercier Full Blown Volume Supreme Mascara Review

This is my first eye product by Laura Mercier, in whom I have found some favorites (Lip Glace, Second Skin Cheek Colour). It’s also one of the few mascaras I have tried that’s by a mid to high-end brand, preferring mostly drugstore since mascaras have such a short shelf life. Here are my thoughts on this mascara.

This comes in a slightly shimmery dark brown tube, a color that most Laura Mercier products are packaged in. It’s made of plastic and looks pretty basic, no issues there because I don’t really care about the “outer” packaging of my mascara, it’s the applicator and formula I care about.

The applicator of this mascara is made of bristles and not silicone. The length of it spans most of my upper lash line, so I’m able to apply the mascara to most of my lashes in one go, but it’s also a bit wide for my eyes that I have trouble putting mascara on the outer end of my upper lashes without getting mascara on the bottom ones as well. Chubby brushes I think are supposed to give a more volumizing effect, but I prefer smaller, thinner ones for more control over application.  This mascara is only available in one shade – black. I don’t find it to be an intense black, which is fine by me. The color of this looks nice and natural on my (also black) lashes.

The formula of it is light and smooth. It doesn’t feel dry or heavy on the eyelashes. I find it easy to apply; it just glides through the eyelashes with no problem. It remains relatively clump-free after two coats, something I appreciate because I dislike mascaras that look clumpy even from a distance.

I find that it is moderately volumizing and lengthening. The keyword here being moderate. Sure, my eyelashes do look more defined and better when I wear this while remaining natural-looking, and it doesn’t seem to weigh down my curl, but I like lush, long, feminine lashes as much as the next girly girl does. To be perfectly honest, I don’t find anything noteworthy about the effects of this mascara.  It’s nice, it’s natural-looking, it’s not clumpy, but that’s about it.

It’s got decent wear time and I notice it flaking and smudging on me only after five or six hours of wear. It’s not a waterproof mascara, but it doesn’t fade or smudge too easily.  I need my mascara to not flake or smudge until night time because it makes my dark under eye circles doubly worse. Are there any mascaras that don’t flake at all?

This is super easy to remove. I don’t have to use eye makeup remover to take it off completely, cleansing water such as Bioderma Sensibio does the job.

No.

Overall:

This is not a bad mascara at all, it’s got a nice formula, does volumize and lengthen, and has decent wear, but I think one can get the same if not a better effect, with a cheaper, drugstore-brand mascara. I wouldn’t recommend shelling out the extra cash for it.
