Hope all of you are doing fine! I am here to share about another latest entry in my beauty regimen from Laura Mercier. I was a no-makeup person earlier and I am still a no-makeup person, except when it comes to auditions and ramp shows. I am very particular about my skin’s requirement, hence I prefer carrying my own makeup to the sets and rehearsals. So, before my usual foundation and tinted face creams finish off, I decided to pick another oil-free foundation from this brand, Laura Mercier. My Experience with Laura Mercier Silk Crème Oil Free Photo Edition Foundation:

The foundation comes in a hygienic, sturdy and opaque plastic tube packaging with a metallic cap. It does have a subtle fragrance but it is of no concern, honestly. I totally admire its user-friendly, hygienic and travel-friendly concept.

The foundation is available in some 12 shades where nearly 80% of the shades is dedicated to light, fairer and medium skin tones, including their respective undertones. The shade range was quite confusing for me; I finally settled with “Cashew Beige” which is described as medium-light with slightly warm undertones. Well, I don’t have medium warm skin tone but surprisingly this was the closest match to my skin tone. It appears to be a bit orange-yellowish to me, hence I am not sure how it will fair on actual medium skin tones.

Shade wise, I am fine but not overly impressed as I am yet to settle with my ideal match in this foundation. Now, coming over to the formula, it appears a bit thick in consistency yet is easily spreadable on the skin with light-weight finish. Like they say, I just need a damp beauty blender or any sponge to pat it gently on my skin and to achieve a flawless base; a little drop goes a long way here. I like how it easily sets on my oily skin without feeling heavy or cakey. It feels just so dewy  and satiny; it does not appear matte as it has a subtle dewy sheen.

Now I am fine with the subtle sheen because it makes my makeup more glowy and youthful as per my personal opinion, but it can definitely disappoint oily skinned beauties as they might need frequent powder touch-ups. Considering I am touching my 30s with a bit dry-combination skin, it is like a dream come true to have a light-weight, full coverage makeup which adheres nicely to my skin. Not to forget, it stays on for good 6+ hours on my skin thereby usually wearing off from my oily T-zone by the end of the 7th or 8th hour. But, I am fine with it.

It is almost there with its nearly medium-full coverage that too without sitting into the fine lines and/or without emphasizing them further. It smartly conceals all the redness, acne scars and pores up to a good extent; it is like an all-in-one package, except one slight disappointment! I mean, it tends to cling to dry patches and often appears flaky on my T-zone and on uneven skin patches. And, those dry flaky foundation patches take around half an hour to blend with my skin. I feel a bit conscious because albeit it looks fine under the artificial lighting conditions, it does appear prominent during the daytime and under natural day light.

Now I have a schedule at day time as well and regardless of wearing it on well scrubbed skin, I still see some flakiness on my cheeks. It smoothens a bit but it never appears ‘flawlessly smooth’. Thus, I feel that this foundation is ideal for problem-free, oily, normal and combination skinned beauties who are blessed with even skin texture.

I feel it might be tricky for dry patches and for very oily skin considering the slightly flakiness plus the dewy finish it imparts. I also feel that it is more suitable for beauties who are in their 20s unlike me as my skin will only get uneven and drier. Personally, I might skip it considering the hefty price and the unavoidable issues.

• Stays for decent 6+ hours on my skin
• Does not clog the pores
• Available in every possible shade for light, fair and medium skin tones

Cons of Laura Mercier Silk Crème Oil Free Photo Edition Foundation:

• No shade selection for deeper skin tones
• Clings slightly to dry patches
• Appears a bit flaky
• Tricky for extremely oily skin
• 12-hour claim feels a bit exaggerated
• Pricey
