Lime Crime Venus:The Grunge Palette Review, Swatches

Hello Everyone,

I am so excited to bring this review for you all today. I am sure all of us makeup crazy ladies have that one particular dream brand which we would love to try. For me this brand was Lime Crime. I was crazy in love with this brand’s products before I ever used them and ever since I saw them on the internet and knew in my core that I would not have lived till I had them in my hands and finally now I do.

To be clear, I am aware of all the controversy surrounding this brand and know that many people are withdrawing their support due to their recent credit card fraud but I personally believe that kind of security breach could happen to any company and Lime Crime was just unfortunate enough to be one of them. Granted their way of handling it was not proper and professional, but I guess you live and you learn and they eventually might. As far as I am concerned, I did take precautions while using my credit card on their website to ensure my safety like I do with all of my online shopping and urge that all customers should, no matter where they buy from. But whether you do or do not wish to buy a certain product, it is your money, your choice.

So back the review on the Venus: The Grunge Palette:

About The Product:
Mash Botticelli’s classical painting with the rebellion of the early 90s, and you get VENUS: The Grunge Palette.

In a sea of nude palettes, VENUS emerges with 8 game-changing, unconventional neutrals and rusty-reds. Full-sized, recklessly pigmented eyeshadows mesh flawlessly for a nu-grunge look with a soft, painterly finish. Beautiful mirrored box with kitschy artwork makes this palette the ultimate collectible artifact!

My Experience with Lime Crime Venus:The Grunge Palette:

Packaging:

Super gorgeous, eye catching and unique with the illustration of the Roman goddess of love and beauty “Venus” on the front. The palette is made of very sturdy cardboard material and has a good sized mirror inside. The palette closes securely via a magnet. I absolutely adore this absolutely beautiful box.

Shades:
This palette consists of 8 shadows. All shadows are mostly warm earthy tones including rusty reds, oranges and browns. If you know me and have judged from my previous review I am crazy for shades like these. I would buy a whole palette just for 1 shade like that which screams out to me and this palette is filled with all those shades. Also to mention palettes filled with shades like these are so very rare. Also this shade perfectly suits the color of the year which is Marsala. All these qualities make this palette and absolute love and I can most defiantly say that this will be most treasured and abused eye palette for a long time.

VENUS: The color of bruised fruit AKA ‘marsala’ (velvet matte)- A gorgeous burgundy red . It has tiniest amount of shimmer which is not very apparent of the eyes. The finish is not completely matte but is somewhat satiny.

SHELL: Opalescent shell-pink (glow)- A gorgeous Peachy coral shade with a shimmery finish.

AURA: Pearlescent ivory (glow)-A breathtaking shimmery pearl shade. Looks absolutely beautiful as a brow bone and inner corner highlight and catches the right amount of light.

CREATION: Rust brown (matte). A gorgeous reddish brown shade. This shade is not completely flat matte. It has a slight sheen/satin finish.

ICON: Dark brown (matte)- A nice chocolate brown. This hade has small amount of golden shimmer which don’t seem that apparent of the eyes.. This shade is great to use on the lower lashline, to smoke out eye liner or even to apply in the crease if you are going for that deep dark smoky look.

REBIRTH: The color of an over-ripe nectarine (matte)-A beautiful matte bright coral. This shade has a bit of a neon quality to it which is very rare to see in an eye shadow and which you usually come across is lip sticks. This shade is so pigmented and brightens up the eye look wherever applied.

DIVINE: Dusty stone (matte)- I light taupe greyish brown. Perfect to blend out harsh edges with and to apply in the crease for a very natural look. This shade complements all the shades in this palette.

MUSE: Deep burgundy red (matte)- An absolutely flat out matte deep burnt red. So gorgeous.

All these shades in the palette are so pigmented and so easy to blend. They do not feel chalky or too powder. They do kick up powder when you dip your brush in but do not cause a whole lot of fall out on the eyes.

The shimmers in certain shades like shell and aura don’t have chunky glitter particles. The shimmer is so fine and smooth and finely-milled that all you see is the beautiful sheen it gives.

This palette has the perfect balance of mattes and shimmers, Bright shades, deep dark shades and also neutral shades which bind everything together.

Staying power:

These shades show up with full opaque color even without any primer of the eyes. Using a primer will of course make them look even better. They wore very well for up to 7-8 hours with very minimal fading.

They did not crease at all. These shadows do not have any scent to them.Overall, I love this palette so much – I could marry it. If you are someone who is a fan of warm tone eye shadows, this palette is a must have.

  1. I had read about the lime crime controversy too neha, but it’s like the company orders stuff from another brand and changes labels and stuff like that!

    1. That is an old controversy Jomol..around the time the company had started..if that were true now why is it that the products are considered so hard to find dupes for..
