L’occitane (Face and Body) Mom and Baby Cream Review

L’occitane (Face and Body) Mom and Baby Cream

By Sarmishta S.

Hi All,

Hi There! Hope you are doing good! This is the very first product I used from L’occitane. I received it as a gift from a friend of mine who returned from Paris. How thoughtful of her to gift this! She bought two of these and L’occitane mom and baby lip balm as well, which I will review very shortly. New mothers or mothers to be often avoid makeup laden with chemicals. A few of them (like me) even have an excuse to forget when/where they last saw their moisturizer. We are surrounded with baby products all the time. This L’occitane mom and baby cream being for both of us is a plus! I use it on my face as a night cream. I also use it as a moisturizer twice a day on my one year old. Here is more about the product:

Look at it! I have not seen a baby product looking cuter than this! I personally loved the packaging. It comes in a regular tube type, flip cap face wash kind of packaging. The main constituent is Shea butter.(7%) This is my second tube. I have been using it regularly on me and my son for almost a month now and this is how much is left.

My experience with L’occitane (Face and Body) Mom and Baby Cream

Most of my friends recommend L’occitane when it comes to high end organic creams or shampoos. They have had pretty satisfying results and are faithful customers to L’occitane. My friend says she was recommended to visit the L’occitane outlet in Paris when she was looking for organic shampoo. She spotted the mom & baby cream and bought it off right away for us. Thought it reads mom and baby cream, being a first time mom I was skeptical on using anything other than the familiar Johnson & Johnson products on my son. Since I have a combination (more towards the dry side) and very sensitive facial skin, I first did a patch test on jaw line. It has a very pleasing mild flowery fragrance (guess its calendula flower) which fades away very soon. I started using it in winter. As soon as I applied it; it felt extremely greasy, as though I applied fresh milk cream on my face. It took a minute to get absorbed. But after that the skin turns “googly woogly wosh” type soft and during the day my skin stayed all hydrated. This is a product that would be suitable for anyone who has dry skin and is looking for a shea butter based cream that really does have good hydration properties. Its completely non-irritating so it is suitable for sensitive skin too. I love its buttery texture and how my skin looks overall.Being a resident of Chennai, we experience a hot & humid climate through the year so for me this works best when used as a night cream rather than a day moisturizer. This being a baby product and organic adds to its plus. I avoid using it in summer or hot humid days even as a night cream, because, in the morning I find enough oil around my nose to scrub off with a tissue! Pricey but may be worth it!

It gets extra thumbs up from me as its light & travel friendly. A friend to your handbag and a blessing to diaper bags!

Cons of L’occitane (Face and Body) Mom and Baby Cream

• May not suit people who have oily skin as it contains shea butter and a few other oils.
• No SPF to protect you or the baby’s skin from sun.
• Makes the skin very oily and tends to shine when used in day time or in summer.
• High priced. ( Kids actually do just fine with J&J )
• Availability in India.

It’s a very simple product. It moisturizes. The product does what it claims. Best to be used as night cream as it has no SPF.

Will I repurchase/ recommend L’occitane (Face and Body) Mom and Baby Cream to others?

No,this is a big NO for summers. Furthermore the availability in India is a problem. I couldn’t find it in any store and website selling it is often out of stock. I will surely recommend for those mothers who have sensitive skin and are looking for a heavy moisturizer.

PS: I preserved those animal pictures on the cover to craft them out and how silly of me to still hold on to the tube 😛 !
