L'Occitane Magical Leaves Exfoliating Shower Gel Review

I love everything about L’Occitane; their unique stores which stand out in all the malls around the world, their friendly staff, droolworthy packaging, and the out of the world fragrances. The only thing I  don’t like are the prices 😛 however, that doesn’t stop me from entering the store again and again.  L’Occitane launched their “Christmas Collection” on the 31 st of October and since I have subscribed to their email list, I received the email. Two collections were introduced and they are the “Marvelous Flowers” collection with rose absolutes, peonies and red berries. The “Marvelous Flowers” collection is feminine, bright and sweet. The collection includes EDT, shimmering oil, shower gel, hand cream, soap, and body cream.  The “Magical Leaves” collection mixes the fresh scents of verbena and hazel leaves with a pinch of citrus. This scent is totally summery and festive at the same time. Since Australia is one of the few countries in the world which celebrates Christmas during summer, this collection is a perfect addition to my beauty cupboard to be used in the coming months. This collection does not include the shimmering oil but all other products remain.

Magic Leaves Shower Gel 1

When I was at L’Occitane last week, I wanted to pick up a couple of hand creams but the Magical Leaves Exfoliating Shower Gel caught my eye. However, since it had very few exfoliating particles, I was not too sure, but I tried it in store and the fragrance as well as how it made my skin feel was wonderful and I picked it up. I was using “The Body Shop African Ximenia Scrub” for more than three months now and I am nearing the bottom of the jar, so I thought I would start using this exfoliating shower gel in the months to come even though I would be using a VS body once a week for good scrubbing 🙂

Product Description and Claims:

Enriched with crushed hazelnut shell, the Magical Leaves Exfoliating Shower Gel is transformed into perfumed foam that gently cleanses and exfoliates. Skin will be delicately scented with the sweet and tangy fragrance of verbena and hazelnut.

Price:

AUD 28 for 200 ml.

My Experience with L’Occitane Magical Leaves Exfoliating Shower Gel:

I totally love the refreshing fragrance, it is similar to the “Verbena” line from L’Occitane with a small twist. It is citrusy, fresh and vibrant to wake me up on summer days.  The product comes in a tube form and the tube contains 200 ml.  It is of gel consistency and contains beads, which I assume are hazelnut beads. However, since this not a body scrub, but an exfoliating gel, the beads are loosely packed and there aren’t many of them. The product lathers well and becomes foam when it comes in contact with water.  I used it without a loofah as it was how it was used on my hands in store and I liked it.

Magical Leaves Shower Gel 2

This can be used on dry skin if you want to get more exfoliation, but you will use up more product that way.  I have used it both ways, on dry skin as well as wet skin. After washing off, my skin smelt lovely and felt really smooth. I didn’t know where the smoothness came from as there weren’t many exfoliating beads, I assume it came from the moisturisers in the shower gel such as castor oil. All in all, I quite like this product.  Even thought it contains SLS, it didn’t dry out my skin at all and since it is spring time now, I can skip moisturiser if I wanted.  The fragrance lingers for a couple of hours.

Magical Leaves Shower Gel 3

Pros of L’Occitane Magical Leaves Exfoliating Shower Gel:

  • Smells refreshing and magical as promised.
  • Leaves skin soft, smooth and lightly scented.
  • Contains hazel nut particles to gently exfoliate dead skin.
  • Comes in a travel-friendly 60 ml pack as well.
  • The EDT, hand cream or cream can be used for layering the fragrance.
  • Packaging is cute as always and the tube is easy to use.

Magical Leaves Shower Gel 4

Cons of L’Occitane Magical Leaves Exfoliating Shower Gel:

  • Might not give enough exfoliation for very oily skin types.
  • I expected the fragrance to linger a bit longer.
  • Contains SLS – for the price, I expected a SLS free product .

IMBB Rating:

4.5/5.  I’m giving 4.5 for the fragrance, consistency and performance of the product.  Also, it is not as expensive as some of the other shower gels from L’Occitane.

Will I Repurchase L’Occitane Magical Leaves Exfoliating Shower Gel?

I will after I finish this tube, but I would like to try some more of the products I purchased on the same day from L’Occitane, all from the new edition. I was planning on saving them up for later, but it doesn’t look like they will stay wrapped up for too long 🙂
