My Take on L’Occitane Volumizing Shampoo:

I love this shampoo! First off, I will tell you that it entirely lives up to its claims.  Although I don’t use this shampoo to wash my hair regularly (it is expensive, of course!), I have been using it for the last four years now. While regular use would have had more prominent results to display (perhaps), I feel the brilliant effects of this shampoo every time I wash my hair with it. In fact, I washed my hair using this shampoo only a few hours before writing this review.

Shampooing Shampoo

The shampoo is something like a creamy gel, if you know what I mean. It is a gel, but it is slightly creamier in consistency than a regular gel and is not transparent. It’s a translucent gel that has a muddy-coloured appearance. It has a nice fragrance that I would describe as belonging to a melange of fruit and vegetable extracts, but I can’t seem to put my finger on what it is, perhaps the ingredients will give you some idea. Also, it is an SLS-free formula!

The shampoo is formulated with a natural vegetable complex of five essential oils (Artemisia, petit grain, sweet orange, rosemary and palmarosa).

It doesn’t lather too well; definitely much less than a regular drugstore shampoo. You do have to work to work up a lather! Make sure that you have wet your hair and scalp well before you begin to work this shampoo in.

My hair is normal, thick and very fine. While I don’t exactly look for volume-enhancing shampoos, it isn’t something that I mind using.

As a cleanser, this shampoo is nothing short of excellent. My hair and scalp feel extremely clean after every use. It adds a visible shine to my hair. My hair feels considerably soft after I wash it with this. It leaves my hair feeling super light and nice. The fragrance lingers on in the hair for a day or two. If you’re looking for volume (especially if you have limp hair), then this will give you some but not too much. However, if you expect that this shampoo (unlike no other) will improve the texture of your hair beyond its immediate after-wash effects, then that isn’t true. Sometimes my hair becomes a little too unnecessarily wavy but this shampoo won’t do anything to change that. I doubt that any shampoo will!

Shampooing Shampoo 4

I almost always use this shampoo with L’Occitane Volumising Conditioner and I am always satisfied with the results. I strongly recommend the use of a conditioner after this shampoo just to seal some moisture in. This shampoo is not particularly drying, but most shampoos tend to make my hair a little frizzy, which I fix with the use of a conditioner. Apart from that, this shampoo will not dry out your hair or scalp—it is not at all harsh.

Pros of L’Occitane Volumizing Shampoo:

  • Excellent shampoo! It totally lives up to its claims. It cleans the hair and scalp very well and leaves it looking and feeling healthy, soft, shiny and weightless.
  • It lists out some very enchanting ingredients! It contains five essential oils.
  • It does not contain any SLS.
  • It is very balancing in its effects. It won’t dry your hair or scalp out.

Well, what more does one look for in a shampoo?

Cons of L’Occitane Volumizing Shampoo:

  • It doesn’t lather as well as some other shampoos. I don’t really look at this as a “con,” but some of you might want to opt for a shampoo that lathers well.

Verdict on L’Occitane Volumising Shampoo:

This is a superb shampoo. I find it a little too expensive, so I don’t use it as often as I would like to. But I have no complaints as such. It leaves the hair feeling weightlessly clean, healthy, soft and shiny.
