Hi everyone,

Everyone who gets their hair colored at the salon knows that stylists will use two different methods to color your hair – either a balayage or foils.

When coloring your hair with a balayage, the stylist will use a brush to paint on the color. When your hair is being dyed with foils, the stylist will simply apply color on your hair and wrap it up in foil until the magic happens. This new method is completely different and it involves a paint brush and a piece of glass.

This new method of hair coloring was invented by a Redken stylist named Chiala Marvici. An old painting that Marvici saw at her friend’s house caught her eye because it layered different colors to build a nice rich multi-dimensional canvas. So, she thought why not try it on hair, it has several layers to build a certain color and depth. She thought this method would display such unique effects after coloring your hair.

This is a much faster way to achieve a cool effects and definition in your hair which is why she explained the procedure to her clients and watched it work successfully each time.

When the color is directly painted onto the glass and then your hair is pressed onto it, it will create a multidimensional effect.

First, Marvici applies hair dye (usually multiple colors to get that three-dimensional look) on a flat plexiglass board. Then, she places a very thin brushed section of hair flat onto the plexiglass. She uses a putty knife to smooth it out and make sure all of the color gets onto the hair and in between the strands. She makes sure all the colors that she used on her plexiglass canvas get completely blended into the hair. She allows the color to stay in the hair for a half hour. Marvici then rinses it out and styles her client’s hair.

This is definitely trending this season because it incorporates several different colors giving a new unique look. It blends in so well that it looks natural and seamless; it also cuts your salon time in half which is amazing for you and your hardworking stylist. It’s an innovative tool that is sculpting people’s hair to seem more voluminous, shiny, and multidimensional.

In the end, the result is a blended but also multidimensional and holographic. This procedure will need a retouch in six to eight weeks. It’s also a very low maintenance look since you won’t need to dye it consistently, just a touch up will be necessary. If you use colors that are naturally close to your hair, it’ll look more natural, growing it out because of how well the colors blended.

This technique is becoming so popular in salons across America, and Marvici is even traveling to teach stylists who are interested in learning.

This technique seems quite simple and enjoyable for people who may have flat/thin hair. This technique gives a very voluminous look to your hair.
