L’Oreal Paris Elvive Light Reflecting Creme Nutri-Gloss with “Pearl Protein” Review

Loreal ElviveI am on a forever quest to find out the ultimate hair product that can tame down my frizzy and unruly hair. I have medium-length wavy hair and no one can have more bad hair days than me on the entire planet. Since, I am not allowed to cut, iron, or chemically treat my hair in any way (my mom is strictly against me and my sister experimenting with our hair), I have to find solace in leave-in hair conditioners and hair serum to manage my hair. It is during this pursuit of mine that the pink bottle of L’Oreal Paris Elvive Light Reflecting Creme Nutri-Gloss with “Pearl Protein” (Mid to Long Length Dull Hair) caught my fancy. One look at it and a quick read of the description was enough for me to coax my sister into buying it for me. I thought I had found the right product for my hair.

WHAT THE PRODUCT CLAIMS:

The description on the bottle says, “a daily non-rinse treatment with shine enhancing technology. New Elvive Light Reflecting Crème is the ultimate care to nourish, smooth, and illuminate your hair.” It further states, “the combination of Pearl Protein and micro-shine reflectors in a light, conditioning formula evens the hair cuticle; smoother, the surface of the hair captures and better reflects light. The result…..”mirror shine, cashmere touch.”

Price : Rs 225 (Indian Rupees) for 200 ml bottle

MODE OF APPLICATION:

  • Apply 1 to 2 walnut-sized amounts to towel dried hair paying particular attention to the ends. Dry and style as normal.
  • Do not rinse.
  • For a more glossy result, apply a small amount as a final touch to your dry hair.

COMPLETE LIST OF INGREDIENTS:

Aqua/water, cetearyl alcohol, CI 77891, titanium dioxide, MICA, hydrolyzed conchiolin protein, phenoxyethanol, PEG-150, stearyl alcohol, SMDI copolymer, PPG-1-Trideceth-6, ethylparaben, polyquarternium-37, Simmondsia chinensis, jojoba seed oil, limonene, linalool, propylene glycol dicaprylate, dicaparate, propylparaben, isobutylparaben, alpha-isomethyl ionone, methylparaben, citric acid, butylphenyl methylpropional, butylparaben, citronellol, hexyl cinnamal, parfum, fragrance.

WHAT’S IT ALL ABOUT:

To begin with, the pink 200 ml bottle contains a white sparkling viscous fluid, which smells kind of fruity, but not quite there. The fragrance is reminiscent of some “fruit that is in a molding state,” it is kind of musty, but I thought what the heck, the infinitesimal sparklers were enough to keep my interest in the crème going. So, I quickly washed and towel dried my hair to try on the product.

There is a small lid at the top of the bottle through which the product was supposed to flow. My tugging at it was of no use and I thought I was stupid enough to do so. Next, I pulled out the lid and after a few attempts, it did open and after much squeezing of the bottle, the product did come out with a sudden plop and there was much more of the crème splattered on my hand than I had expected. Happily, I applied it on to my hair and waited. There was only a just-washed-my-hair kind of wetness to my hair, but smoothness and cashmere touch……not in sight.

I waited thinking that maybe the product needed time to work on, but after 10 to 15 minutes, there were millions of tiny sparklers in my hair, but again, neither could I feel the cashmere touch nor did I see any conditioning.

Loreal Elvive

With a heavy heart, I came to the conclusion that my hair was beyond repair and that I should gift it to somebody with good hair so that the micro-shine reflectors could make someone else’s day. So, I gave the product to my neighbor with lovely long poker straight hair, but after seeing the same results on her hair too, I felt bad for my tresses for what they had been put through.

But, the miniscule sparklers kept on happily glinting in my hair for quite a few hours, but you may just sprinkle a pinch of cheap glitter powder on your hair and that would serve the purpose. This light reflecting crème with nutri-gloss does nothing to condition or smooth the hair. The sparklers also do not twinkle outside in the sun.

I should also point out that my scalp started smelling very musty and stale after a few hours and I had to rinse the crème completely off my hair to feel fresh. Well, on a second thought, having a bottle of this crème can come handy on a day when you have planned a dream date with your boyfriend/husband and to your horror a pearly zit has taken birth bang in the middle of your nose. In such a crisis, you could apply this crème generously on to your hair to distract your date’s attention away from the bump on your nose. He will spend the entire evening trying to figure out what’s wrong with your hair and where the frowsty smell is coming from.

Well, what to say, except that I lost a cool Rs. 225 on this “pearl protein” fiasco.

      1. hey.i too have a hair like urs.frizzy, unmanagible & brittle.i have used 1000s of shampoos & conditioners. but nothing worked.the only solution i found out 4 my hair is loreal liss extreme hair masque.& i m sure it gonna help u too.shampoos don’t do sufficient conditioning so a mild shampoo is enough 4 the purpose of cleaning ur hair.i hope my info is helpful 4 u.thx

  3. Wow, they seem to be selling shimmer in a cream for the hair – how tacky! Might look fine on kids dressed up fairies for a fancy dress party 😛

    1. Well said Tanveer….that’s also a good idea since I have almost 75% of the product remaining and was wondering what to do with it.

  4. Sunsilk had a similar product about a year or two back.
A black tube and the shampoo was somewhat similar with pearlescent particles. But it was a lovely product and never left any glitter back on the hair. At the same time, the hair did look glossy after the wash. I didnt try their conditioners.

    1. Sorry Jomol. I don’t remember the name of the product.

I know for sure it was Sunsilk and it came in a St.Ives scrub like tube and the container was shimmery black as well as the product.

I will surely post it here if I can retrieve it from my overloaded memory 🙂

  5. Gawd Jomol… I really feel sorry for your loss of precious hard earned money… 🙁

    But I GOTTA SAY…
This was the funniest post i ever read… ROFL!!! 😆 😆

  6. hii jomol,i have bad hair wid lack of protein .. it makes it frizzy though the smoothnes is there and its very lifeless… during rainy season it makes ma hair more frizzy.. is this a rite product to use afetr washing…? bye..rep

  7. No Divya…please don’t buy it all….it does not work in anyway….it just adds glitter to your hair. For your frizzy hair, I would suggest that you go for good hair serums from Matrix and Toni and Guy….they don’t harm your hair in the long run and tames frizzy hair. I also think taking zinc supplements and Biotin helps a lot in nurturing hair. 🙂

    1. jo…how are you
me too bought the loreal Intense Smooth one meant for dry frizzy hair.. Thankfully i bought small bottles only.. Made my hair so rough and frizzzzyyy i could not run a comb or brush through it.. I had to apply oil and shampoo again the next day..
Sunsilk has this really good shampoo yellow one dream smooth and soft (co-creations) that is good for my dry frizzy wavy hair.. Try it.. Have not tried the conditioner but the shampoo alone is good for dry hair..
