Lotus Herbals Absolute Broad Spectrum Anti Tan Gel with SPF 30

When it comes to sunscreens, my experience has been an almost exasperating one. Living in a city which is hot and humid most of the year, it was imperative that I wear sunscreen during the day to protect my skin from the scorching rays of the sun. I have combination skin which is highly sensitive and has recently become prone to breakouts. While the regions around my cheeks and lips tend to become parched, the T-zone remains normal to oily. Also, I feel extremely hot and my forehead starts to sweat if I wear day creams, lotions and so on.

The experience was similar with two sunscreens that I used previously. I found myself sweating and feeling unduly hot after wearing the Lakme Sun Expert Fairness Sunscreen as well as the VLCC Natural Sciences Matte Look Sun Screen Lotion, both with SPF 30. While the Lakme Sunscreen felt light, it made my skin look dark and dull whereas the VLCC product made me sweat. Since I cannot wear even light moisturizers while I am outside without feeling hot, I became extremely sceptical about the sunscreens in the market.

Nevertheless, at the suggestion of a few friends, I decided to try the new sunscreen gel that has been introduced by Lotus Herbals. The product is Lotus Herbals Safe Sun Absolute Broad Spectrum Anti-tan Gel. There are two reasons why I decided to try this product – firstly because it is gel based and hence chances to sweating were lesser than lotions and creams and secondly because people I know have come to love several products by this brand. I must say that after using this product for the last few weeks, I am extremely happy and satisfied with it.

My Experience with Lotus Herbals Absolute Broad Spectrum Anti-Tan Gel with SPF 30:

Like I said before, my experience with sunscreens was quite a frustrating one.  However, this new product does what it says. It provides a cooling effect on the skin after I massage it in, although the effect does not last long. What is most beneficial about this product is that it is water based and in a gel form, which makes it readily absorbable.

The gel form was one of the reasons I bought it. After application on the face, it gets absorbed almost instantly and it does not feel like I am wearing any product on my face at all. Unlike lotions and creams, it does not leave a film on the face making the skin feel heavy. Despite the humid conditions, I have found that my skin is less prone to break into a sweat which is very relieving.  The product offers medium protection, so you might want to re-apply it if you are outdoors for most of the day.

SPF 30

As for the anti-tan claim, I cannot say that I have noticed any lightening of the skin. However, my skin gets tanned and burned very easily and I have not noticed the tan settling since I have started using this gel. So, it must be working on some level.

PA+++

The sunscreen is packed in a very handy plastic bottle which you can easily carry with you. There is a thin nozzle which dispenses small quantities of the gel onto your finger. This is a product that promises to last a long time because you need only a small amount to cover your entire face. The gel is translucent and not tinted which is another advantage and it becomes transparent after application. Hence, you need not worry about uneven application. The gel has a smooth texture and the Calendula and Vanilla extracts provide a cooling sensation along with a mild fragrance.  All in all, this is a great sunscreen product and justifies its claims.

    1. Well, I don’t wear foundation myself but given that this gets absorbed easily and does not leave a film or residue over the face, I think you can definitely try a water based foundation.
