Lush Caca Rouge Henna Hair Color

Product Description:

Spectacularly vivid red henna.  For aspiring redheads who want to stop traffic with unparalleled shine and color. That’s not too much to ask from a solid block of henna is it? Not if you make it like we do. Caca Rouge is the reddest of our henna dyes and it’s sure to get you noticed. We use the finest Persian henna; the leaves are dried and ground into a powder and mixed with conditioning cocoa butter, which forms the basis of our Cacas. Organic lemon juice helps to bring out the redness and gives hair shine and lustre. You’re left with stunning, shiny and healthy-looking hair.

Features:

• Red is for passion: To bring out the flame-haired temptress lurking beneath dull locks.
• Red, Redder, Reddest: Lighter hair will be left fiery and darker hair will be left with an auburn glow.
• Shine and spice: Lemon juice and rosemary add shine and clove bud oil gives a sexy, spicy scent.

My Experience with Lush Caca Rouge Henna Hair Color:

I have very fine, dry, frizzy hair hence I never subject my hair to the horrible tortures of chemical hair color. I always opt for natural hair treatment and have been doing henna for years. I usually go for the traditional Indian hair henna powder variety, mostly the ones which include shikakai and amla and have been very pleased with the conditioning aspect of it, but this time around, I decided to do something different. I picked up this Caca Rouge hair dye from Lush which contains red henna and is designed to give a fiery red color to the hair.

I am pretty sure you all are familiar with the process of henna application. This dye comes in form of cubes and it is directed to grate it to turn it into powder which would have been very time consuming and not to mention such hard work. I instead put the required chunks in a zip lock bag and pounded it with a pestle to crush it into powder. Then you have to mix it with hot water till you get a batter-like consistency.

Application is obviously very messy. You do need gloves as it will stain your bare fingers. I applied and covered my hair in shower cap for 4-5 hours before washing.

Results:

I did not notice much color with just the first application. You definitely need 3-4 applications before the color vibrancy shows up. On my dark brown-black hair, the results are very subtle (the results you see in the picture are after 2 applications within a span of a week). You get a tinge of auburn red color (it most definitely did not turn me into a red head which I will admit I was secretly hoping for), which is only visible in certain lights. It does impart a nice shine to the hair and transforms it from dull looking to healthy with glossy dimension.

In terms of conditioning, my hair did feel softer and bouncier, but I did not notice any drastic improvement other than that. My hair still felt dry and it definitely did not help with the frizz. I have noticed much better results with traditional henna dyes rather than this one.

It also has a strong herbal scent which lingers in the hair even after the wash.

Lush Caca Rouge Henna Hair Color

Overall, I do like this product but not enough to recommend it. It is very expensive and also it is a difficult task to turn the blocks into powder. It did not give me the heavy conditioning my dry hair was thirsting for nor did it provide vibrant color. You may get color with three or more applications, but honestly who has the time to apply and sit with henna on their head every few days.

This henna does come in different variations – Caca Noir (for black hair), Caca Brun (for rich brown) and Caca Marron. All have been reviewed on IMBB.

Pros of Lush Caca Rouge Henna Hair Color:

  • Makes the hair softer and bouncier.
  • Subtle color.
  • All natural ingredients.

Cons of Lush Caca Rouge Henna Hair Color:

  • Very expensive.
  • Difficult task to turn blocks into powder.
  • Does not give vibrant color in one use (unless you have light hair).
  • Need to be reapplied many times for the color to show up.
  • Did not deeply condition my hair, did not help tame my frizzy hair.
