Lush Happy Happy Joy Joy Hair Conditioner Review

Hi friends,

My hair threw a fit at the Lush store 😛 “Are you going to always pick up only face masks and creams from Lush or are you ever going to pay attention towards me too,” my hair snarled!  A fleeting glance on the mirror at the store made the picture clearer. My hair was frizzed up and all set for a bad hair day. Sheepishly, I made my way to the hair aisle thinking what would make me meet halfway with my hair.

Should I pick up hair masks…I wondered. Naah, the weather here is still cold to sit with a hair mask on.  So, hair masque got ruled out.  How about shampoo? Well, this might be a weird logic, but I had tried Lush shower soaps earlier and most of it ended up in the tub rather than me using it. I did not want to try a soap bar on my hair so that was out of picture too.  So the safest bet was picking up a hair conditioner. And voila….who comes to the rescue! “Happy Happy Joy Joy!”

Packaging:

The hair conditioner comes in a standard Lush packaging of plastic bottle with a black cap. It has a flip top cap, which makes easy to pour the conditioner. It is a travel friendly and sturdy bottle.  It is off-white in color. The conditioner is of semi-liquid consistency and lightweight. The texture can be described as thinner compared to Dove conditioners that I have used earlier. The fragrance is floral and remarkable…. like a bouquet of flowers. I will share more about the fragrance in my experience section. The conditioner comes in 3 sizes of 3.3 oz., 8.4 oz. and 16.9 oz.

Price:

$24.95 for 8.4 oz

My Experience with Lush Happy Happy Joy Joy Hair Conditioner:

After shampooing my hair, I took the same amount (which is roughly a small scoop) of conditioner as I usually take for my Dove conditioner. The hair conditioner was easy to spread on the wet hair. However, I felt that it did not cover my hair strands completely as the hair conditioner is semi-liquid. So, I took one more scoop of the hair conditioner and spread it on my hair. Hence I end up using more amount of this hair conditioner every time.

When I apply my Dove conditioner, even while washing my hair, I find my hair moisturized.  However, I did not get the same effect with this conditioner. Even while the hair conditioner was on my hair, the hair strands felt parched. However, I was more interested to see the effects once my hair was dry.

Rinsing off the hair conditioner is quite an easy task. The hair conditioner washes off very easily without leaving any stickiness behind.

The conditioner made my frizz-prone dry hair have less tangles. It was also softer to touch. The hair conditioner contains jojoba oil, almond milk and rose oil to provide nourishment and hydration. However, I did not find my hair feeling very hydrated as it happens while using Dove. It made just made my hair more manageable.  Also, the hair conditioner did not make my hair greasy or flat.

What makes this hair conditioner stand out is its fragrance. The presence of Rose water, Orange blossom absolute, Grapefruit oil, Rosewood oil and Neroli Oil gives it a very pleasant floral fragrance. The fragrance in my hair after using the hair conditioner is wonderful. The fragrance stays in hair until I wash my hair the next time. Though the fragrance is very pleasant for me, but for people with sensitive noses, it might be a bit overwhelming.

The product claims to work wonderfully on bleached and over-processed hair.  I did not find any additional shine in my hair.  Also, I do not understand why Lush which stands for vegan and natural handmade products has sulfates and alcohol and that too in hair conditioners.

I think this hair conditioner would be more suitable for normal hair type, which would need only mild conditioning. I am currently alternating this hair conditioner with my Dove conditioner, as my dry hair needs heavier conditioning during this changing climate.

Would I Repurchase Lush Happy Happy Joy Joy Hair Conditioner?

Lush claims that the hair conditioner is so good that they named it twice. However, I was not very “happy happy joy joy” while using this conditioner.  I would not buy this product again as it did not out-perform my Dove conditioner which is working best for my dry hair type.

Sorry hair, I tried!! 😛

  1. Thank you Arpita for spending time to read the review 🙂
Yea I am trying to venture out and try conditioners, other than Dove.
    Any recommendations?

  2. I first got a sample of this product (after a quick hair test by the salesperson at Lush). I have coloured hair, also very dry and excessively frizzy. I tried this out and my hair was left super soft, very shiny and with cero frizz. It was almost miraculous on my hair. I HAD TO go back to the store and buy the full size bottle. I must say that I felt very guilty, the price is extremely high for a conditioner… but I use it only for special occasions, when I need to show a fabulous hair. The rest of the time I use my regular drugstore products that work just fine. I would definitely recommend HappyHappy JoyJoy.. specially if you are willing to spend a good amount of money on this kind of mundane and unimportant things. We are talking about hair products, not a big deal in life! Anyway… we all want to have soft & shiny hair. This product by Lush delivers, though at a high price…
