Lush The Kiss Lip Scrub Review

Hi friends,

I have never used lip scrubs ever or rather to tell you the truth – bothered to scrub my lips ever 😛 In my teens, I had really bad chapped lips. So, I adopted the habit of applying lip balms always and this habit has stuck with me till date. But I could never cozy up to the idea of using lip scrubs. I had read numerous times about exfoliation of dead cells from lips helping in new skin regeneration, but until now, I had never put it into practical application. I do not know what caught my fancy when I saw Lush’s The Kiss Lip Scrub. Was it the cute bottle, the sprinkles in the scrub, the gorgeous color – let’s find out 😛

Lush The Kiss Lip Scrub

Packaging:

The scrub comes in a cute and sturdy glass tub with a plastic lid cover. The cap has an adorable picture of “the kiss” – cuteness overload!! The scrub has a gorgeous candy pink color, which is extremely alluring.  Also, the shimmery yellow sprinkles and the red hearts add to the charm of the scrub.  The bottle is travel friendly and can fit with élan anywhere. The fragrance of the scrub is sweet like candies with mild citrusy notes due to mandarin oil content. Lush has scrubs in following fragrance options as popcorn (yes there is a scrub named as popcorn :P) Bubblegum and Mint Julips.

Price:

$9.95 for 0.8oz (25 gm).

My Experience with Lush The Kiss Lip Scrub:

I dab my finger on the scrub so that very tiny amount gets picked up and apply the same on my lips. The scrub can be applied on dry lips or what I prefer is, I apply water on the lips to provide a base for the scrub to stick on.

The scrub is mild and suitable for lips as skin on the lips is very thin compared to facial skin.  I did not find the scrub harsh for my lips. The scrub tastes mildly sweet as it contains sugar sprinkles. It also tasted salty and sour due to fine sea salt content with cocoa butter content.

The directions to use say that the scrub can be cleaned away by licking the lips after you are done with exfoliation. However, the idea of dead skin cells mixed in the scrub makes it a little yucky for me. So, after scrubbing my lips for a minute, I rinse it off with water. I am currently using this scrub twice a week.

It contains oils like almond oil and safflower oil to bind together the exfoliating agents in scrub. However, if I take more than a tiny dab of the scrub, it flakes and falls off, making the sink messy.  The scrub imparts a faint pink color to the lips while scrubbing, but it gets washed off on rinsing. Also, they do not stain the fingers.

I was really surprised that after first use itself, I found a difference in the smoothness of my lips. I now knew what I had been missing as my skin on the lips look much better. I used to have dryness in the corners of my mouth and it has reduced considerably. The scrub has really helped in providing exfoliation of the dead skin cells.

Lush The Kiss Lip Scrub 5

Since a very small amount is required, this lip scrub is going to last me forever. Most of the Lush products come with a time limit as they all contain natural products. The good thing about this lip scrub is that it is mentioned as self –preserving, so I can use it without any fear of having the contents getting spoiled.

Pros of Lush The Kiss Lip Scrub:

  • Provides good exfoliation for lips.
  • Helps in removing dead cells and making lips smoother.
  • Scrub particles are gentle on the thin skin of lips.
  • Very small amount is required to use for each application.
  • Scrub bottle has enough amount to last for a long time.
  • Fragrance of the scrub is sweet and mildly citrusy.
  • Packaging is very cute with pink shimmery scrubs and sprinkles.
  • Has natural ingredients that are self preserving to last longer.
  • As per directions of use, after scrubbing, it can be licked off instead of rinsing.
  • Scrub tastes sweet and salty with little sourness.

Cons of Lush The Kiss Lip Scrub:

  • If you have cracked lips, the sea salt content might cause slight botheration.
  • Costly for a lip scrub (but as only a small amount is required, the bottle would last for long time).
  • If more than required amount is used on the lips, the scrub tends to flake off and fall making the sink messy.

Would I Repurchase Lush The Kiss Lip Scrub?

For me, as a first timer using the product, I really liked it.  This bottle is going to last me forever, so I would not be buying it immediately. However, I would like to try other options, which Lush has to offer.  And lip scrubs do help….if you have not tried it yet, please do.  You would love the change 🙂
