MAC Edge To Edge Lip Pencil Review

Today’s review is on another lip pencil from MAC. This is a soft shade which I probably wouldn’t have noticed, had it not been used on me by a MAC MUA. Let’s find out more about this one which has been named “Edge To Edge” by MAC.

Product Details:
A pencil designed for shaping, lining or filling in the lip. Lip Pencils have a smooth, creamy texture that is perfect for lining the lips or filling them in. They are long-lasting and available in a wide selection of colors that work well with many different lipstick shades. The color of lip pencils is protected by vitamin E, which acts as an antioxidant, and they contain emollients that moisturize the lips. Lip Pencils can be worn alone, with lipstick or lip glass.

Price:
$16.50 in US / INR 1400 for 1.45 gm.

Packaging:  The lip pencil is a regular sharpen-able wooden pencil, which comes packaged in a black cardboard box. The good thing with the packaging is that the plastic cap is snugly secure and doesn’t come off easily. Also, the pencil bottom is colour coded corresponding to the product shade, so it’s easy to identify in the stash. There is no smudger or sharpener provided with the pencil.

My Experience with MAC Edge To Edge Lip Pencil:

Color:  Like “Boldly Bare,” this shade too is a very soft shade, not something which would normally have caught my attention. It was recently used on me by a MAC MUA and topped with MAC Mehr (refer pic). Mehr was my first MAC lipstick and never ever has it looked this beautiful on me as it did with “Edge To Edge” as the base.

The shade is a cool-toned soft pink with blue undertones. It works great on its own by providing soft pink lips for a dramatic smokey eye look. Also, it works very well as a base for any other soft pink lipstick colour or a dirty pink lipstick colour (NARS Anna, MAC Pink Plaid, YSL Caress Pink, etc).

Texture:  The texture for this one was fairly smooth – as “smooth” as a MAC lip pencil can be! Yes, we are not talking about buttery smoothness here. Instead, we are talking about something which glides easily without tug and pull on your lips. As the lip pencil is matte, you need prepped and exfoliated lips. Else, it will catch on the dryness and the whole look will go for a toss. When used on its own, it feels pretty okay for about 3-4 hours, though it looks fairly dry from the word “Go”! Post the 3-4 hour mark, it starts feeling drying. With a lipstick or lip gloss on top – it’s easier to manage.

Pigmentation: The pigmentation is good. Considering how soft and light the shade is, it still covers all lip pigmentation very well and provides an even base (as long as your lips are prepped).

Lasting Power:  The product lasted about 6-6.5 hours on me – on its own, but it did get very drying and clingy by the end of that time. With a lipstick applied, it increases the longevity of the lipstick by a couple of hours and can be made to work pretty much the whole day.

To sum this up for you:

Pros of MAC Edge To Edge Lip Pencil:

• A beautiful cool soft pink colour – one which actually works for Indian skin tones.
• Lightweight matte texture.
• Precision application.
• The pencil applies without tug or pull!
• No feathering or bleeding.
• Convenient packaging, easy to apply and easy to carry, doesn’t take much space in the bag.

Cons of MAC Edge To Edge Lip Pencil:

• Not a hydrating formula; however, considering they are supposed to provide an iron-clad base for lipstick – one kind of expects them to be drying. You cannot really have an emollient formula as base for a lipstick.
• Tends to cling to dry patches, would suggest exfoliating lips before applying.

I think this too is a must-buy shade for office goers and gals who generally prefer n*de lips or soft pink shades. Considering, how quickly a soft shade tends to disappear from the lips, without a stain, this one can be a boon by giving longevity to the lipstick. This shade is also generally sold out. So, catch it when you can.
