MAC Fashion Legacy Retro Matte Liquid Lip Colour Review

Hey Beautiful People,

So, I reviewed the shade “Oh Lady” earlier in the day. This review is on the second shade that I had picked up from this range and it’s called “Fashion Legacy.” Let’s see how this one fared.

Ingredients

Packaging:

The liquid lip colour comes packaged in a lip gloss kind of packaging. The thing which catches your eye instantly is that the cap which holds the wand has been kept similar in looks to the cap of a regular MAC bullet. That provides an instant connect cause honestly, there is nothing in the packaging which would remind you it’s a luxury product.

Shade names

It just doesn’t have that feel – don’t know why. The tube is transparent, so it’s easy to identify the colour. The bottle comes packaged in the standard MAC black outer box.

The applicator is a soft. Since the applicator wand is short, it helps in precise application.

My Experience with MAC Fashion Legacy Retro Matte Liquid Lip Colour:

Color: The shade, described as “intense fire truck red” is a medium dark orange-tinged red – my favorite kind! I didn’t see too many people raving about this colour or having picked it up – I think “Oh Lady,” “Recollection” and “To Matte with Love” had more takers. However, I was pretty sure I wanted this because I feel orange-toned reds suit our Indian skin tone very well and a matte red is always welcome.

The shade is bright and surely makes a statement. It easily lights up the face. Again, since the colour is so bright and long wear kinds, correction in application can be real messy. So, you have to really concentrate while applying. I would suggest, outline your lips with a lip liner and then just fill in with this.

Texture: The lipstick is quite thick and creamy, certainly not a lightweight texture. It sets fairly quickly to a totally matte finish. This formula definitely needs prepped up lips. So, you do need to exfoliate and moisturize your lips else you will not be able to manage wearing it.

Applicator

The good thing is that even though the formula is not the lightest, it does not crack or flake off. Nor does it feather or bleed – which is always a scare with red shades.

Pigmentation:  Pigmentation is quite good on this one. A single layer covers full lip pigmentation. There is no translucency, which also means that it’s difficult to get rid off, both from correction point of view and from the perspective of getting it off at the end of the day or if you wanted to change the lip colour – in the middle of the day. Why would you wanna change the lip colour? I’m getting to that…

Staying Power:  The formula is definitely long wearing. It can stay with you pretty much through the day – depending what you have been eating and sipping on. However, as I mentioned in the review of “Oh Lady,” post the 6-hour mark, the lipstick though sticks around, it does not have a pleasing appearance on the lips. Even when freshly applied, a close up of the lip swatch shows how drying it looks. It starts feeling dry around 2-3 hours of wear, which leads to it sucking out moisture from your lips and clinging to the dry patches. The whole feel on your lips is drying and the urge you have is not necessarily to reach for the lip balm but to just take it off. It feels thick and cakey on the lips.

Also, as a side note, using a lip balm on these will again make the formula breakdown. So, that may not be much of a solution.

You will need an oil-based makeup remover to get it totally off your lips.

IMBB Rating:

A 3.75/5 product buy here

As I have said in the previous review, this is a decent formula to quench the thirst for people who want matte liquid lip colors. However, it is not necessarily the best formula, by any stretch of imagination nor is this the best formula at that price point.

Another way of looking at it is – if you want a perfect click for your instagram or YouTube or if you want something for an event which will last up to 4-5 hours – go for this, but if you are looking at a long-wear formula which tide you over the whole day, nope this is not the one!

Would I Repurchase/Recommend MAC Fashion Legacy Retro Matte Liquid Lip Colour?
Guess not! I will keep this for days when I want a burst of confidence, but for a shorter time.
