MAC Groundwork Paint Pot review

MAC Groundwork Paint Pot : Hello all the IMBB beauties :*. I am back from my most memorable Delhi trip. I managed to have a glance to Delhi’s awesome malls. But with my BF around could not concentrate on shopping much icon razz MAC Groundwork Paint Pot Review .

Today I am going to review a MAC product which I adore and am using it since quite a while. It’s a eye shadow base product- paint pot! MAC has a fairly large collection of paint pots with different colors which work as base for different eye shadow looks. Some of them can be worn as eye shadows itself.

I used MAC painterly paint pot for quite long (bought another one too which I barely use now) before switching to MAC groundwork paint pot.

MAC Groundwork Paint Pot

This was suggested to me by a make-up guru. But I made the switch only after personally swatching it at the MAC store few months back.

About MAC Groundwork Paint pot:

  • It’s a creamy eye color base which dries to smooth, vibrant finish.
  • Works great for medium to dark tone skin.
  • It is a neutral taupe color with satin texture specially suited for Indian skin tone.
  • It has a long-lasting and crease-proof formula.

Price: INR. 1050/-

My take on MAC Groundwork Paint Pot

I prefer this over painterly as this matches my skin tone (dark circles rather icon razz MAC Groundwork Paint Pot Review ) perfectly. I am NC 42 in MAC. Painterly is very good as base for lighter eye shadow colors but it use to give me an ashy look with some neutral colors. Those with fair skin tone can go ahead with painterly. But girls with olive, medium or tan skin tone should definitely give Groundwork a try.

I have swatched purple eye shadows from Avon eye shadow Quad since they are not very pigmented otherwise. But with groundwork as base they come out nice and usable.

MAC Groundwork Paint Pot

You can see how well MAC Groundwork has matched with my skin tone than MAC Painterly, which is giving a rather chalky look. It gives more chalky look to my eyes because of my dark circle.

What I like about MAC Groundwork paint pot?

  • Its texture is very creamy, giving a satiny finish to the eyes.
  • It works as a very good primer for eye shadow, without any creasing for hours.
  • It matches my NC 42 skin tone well.
  • You can wear it as eye shadow itself.
  • It does not give my eyes ashy look.
  • It works well as a base for almost all eye shadow colors.
  • It is long-lasting, I have been using it twice a week since 3 months and the product still looks barely used. (I think it will last me more than a year) icon wink MAC Groundwork Paint Pot Review .

What I don’t like about MAC Groundwork paint pot?

  • It may not work for very fair skin-tone.
  • Price may be a negative factor. But trust me it lasts really long.
  • Blending should be done very quickly as it dries out faster.

Note: Please check your product before leaving the store as I had an experience of getting dried our product. It could not be used at all. The MAC MUA was kind enough to exchange it even though I had lost my pay receipt….phwewww!!

I love my painterly but seriously i have no heart to pick up another one considering how long they go on and on. I would be buying MAC paint after I atleast hot a pan on painterly. :P I have seen groundwork and it’s a very pretty base, especially for people who love doing neutral eyes. :) What do you plan to do with your painterly btw. :P

You are right Rati, its great for neutral look.

And Painterly will be used only in emergency now :P
I don’t know when will I finish my groundwork…. :-D :-D

Hi Jinal! Seems like you a groundwork fan also!! I only use groundwork paint pot because I am an NC 42 in foundations just like you :-D

I bought my groundwork paint pot over a year ago ( I think around a year and a half ago) and have it used it every day since (I am not kidding) and only now has it reached the bottom of the pot! Price notwithstanding, it’s a great product!

I personally was surprised to see most of the women in IMBB always using Painterly as it is more suited for people with much fairer skin tones (all the western girls here use Painterly hehe). I would definitely recommend Groundwork for ladies who are around the NC 40-45 range :-) :-) :-) :-)

Wow this is perfect ! I never saw this shade at the MAC here but it figures, they have crappy stock. I swatched painterly and soft ochre and I prefer it cause of the yellow undertones but this seems even better as it is darker … Thank you for mentioning it – great review ! :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)

Jinal November 27, 2010 at 9:56 pm

Devie…..that must be because of mismatch with the colors.
do u have pigmented eyelids?

Reply

Devie November 28, 2010 at 1:14 am

Super pigmented! Like a :panda:
I have low hemoglobin and as a result have dark circles and eyelids! I tried putting Studio Tech on my lids like Janhavi mentioned and it worked. I’m going to try my primer on top of that!

Ohhh I aslo have low hemoglobin and therefore dark circles.
U must try groundwork then….it will suit darker skin.
I also use Studio tech as foundation. But it might crease on the eyelids.
For eye area you should have a liquidy concealer to avoid caking around eyes.
I am using select cover-up for my eyes and mouth area. You can try at MAC store :) )

Hi Jinal,

Just a suggestion, since you like Groundwork, you might also like Indianwood…a beautiful color as base or even by itself. :)
Love my paint pots…they work awesome when I just have less then 5 mins to do my entire face

Jinal November 29, 2010 at 11:18 am

THanx Rajol…..I will definitely look for Indianwood next time :) )

Hey Neha!
I’m in chennai and MAC has 2 stores here.. one at Khader Nawaz Khan road, next to Espirit and te other at Express Avenue mall on the ground floor. Hey but both stores have crappy stocks. Jus picked up the Rubenesque paint pot yesterday. been wanting to get my hands on Painterly and this one but no stock!! :-( (
Hey but MAC is organising a make up workshop at The Park on 29 and 30… passes avlbl at MAC Khader Nawaz Khan rd store for 6000 and then you can redeem this pass for MAC products woth 6000! How cool is that! I’m definitely gonna go if i can get off work!! :-D
Wanna come?
