MAC Prolongwear Lip Pencil – Trust in Red Review

All thanks to my lovely bosses, I get doses of pampering every now and then.  This time, it’s the Prolong Wear Lip Pencil in the shade “Trust in Red” from MAC. I had a good experience with the other shade that I picked up, so I thought of giving this a try. Read on to know how it fared for me:

Rs. 1550/- for 1.2 gm.

I am in love with the concept of lip liners and when they come from my favorite brand MAC, there could hardly be anything better.  This time, I went for a bright bold shade which is quite unlike me. I picked the shade “Trust in Red,” which is definitely from the red family, but with very strong blue undertones.

Once in a while, I experiment with bold shades and there can be nothing as bold and beautiful as red provided it suits your complexion. One swatch on my hand and I knew this was gonna come home with me.

Coming to the shade, it is a red with cool bluish undertones. It might tend to look neon-ish in broad daylight, but if you can carry it off, you will be the head turner. If paired with a simple winged liner, this can be your retro red. I am not into such bold shades, but this is really an exception as it gives an instant brightening effect to the face.

The pencil comes in outer paper carton with all details. Both the pencil and the outer box is color coded. Being sharpen-able, you get a pointed fresh tip every time, but again, there is product wastage. The cap does not shut with a click, but definitely it is not flimsy. I have been carrying this in my makeup pouch and it has never opened to create mess.

The staying power is LONG. I call this heavy-duty lip liner. It survives tea/coffee/snacks and still stays up to 6 hours. That is really long considering the shade range and it continues to stay on forever. No flaking or patchiness. People with very dry lips might find the feel a bit uncomfortable after an hour or so which can be managed with a lip balm. This is when you are wearing it alone. When you top it off with a lipstick, you can be assured that your lip color will stay.

The texture is on the harder side, I would have loved it a bit creamier. On a scale of creaminess, I would give it 5/10. It slightly tugs the lips which is not expected from a brand like MAC, but again, the staying power is increased due to this texture of the lip liner.

To sum up, this is one lip liner that is going to be my friend for parties, but again, this is slightly pricey considering it is a lip pencil and not a “lipstick,” trust me, it can be very much used as one.

Umm…if you are a lipstick/lip liner junkie like me, yes, but if you are on budget and starting off with lip lining or makeup in general, then you will find dupable options in the market.
