MAC Technakohl Take the Plunge Liner Review

Hello lovely ladies,

Today, I have another of my MAC purchases to share with you all. When I went to the MAC counter, I wanted to purchase a blue eye liner. But before I could check any blue eye liner, Evil Twin Fluidline Eye Pencil caught my fancy and I picked that up, but I couldn’t leave the counter without picking a blue liner too. 😛 So, I finally took the plunge and picked this one too. 😛 But does the Technakohl liner – Take the Plunge performs as well as Evil Twin Fluidline Eye Pencil??? Let’s find out:

My Experience with MAC Technakohl Take the Plunge Liner:

During the holiday season last year, MAC re-worked the Technakohl liner collection and added 27 new shades 😀 Another great thing about this launch was that all these shades are added to the permanent line. There are so many amazing shades that choosing just one was such a tough job. 😉 But I had to do this Herculean task!!! 😛

MAC describes the shade “Take the Plunge” as a deep ocean blue. It is a medium dark blue with hints of teal and green.

The eyeliner comes in a black cardboard packing, typical to MAC, which has a color coded band at the bottom and contains all the details about the product. The product is housed in a retractable (yes, this pencil does retract :P), color coded plastic body which makes it easier to spot in the stash. The pencil closes with a click and hence is travel friendly.

The eyeliner is very creamy and smooth. It goes on very smoothly on the eyelids and does not tug or pull at all. It did not break but then I was very careful while using this liner as I almost had a heart attack when I broke the tip of my Evil Twin fluidline eye liner.

The pigmentation is not superb but with the creamy texture, you won’t mind going over the liner again. I generally go over my liner twice. I wore the liner on waterline too and no discomfort at all, but the liner is not at all smudge proof. 🙁 It will rub off even if you accidentally touch your eyes. Also, it transfers!!! I wore it when we went for the picnic and in the sunny day, it transferred on my upper lids (I have slightly oily lids) in just a couple of hours. 🙁 So priming your lids is a must, else if you have oily lids or a tendency to touch your eyes, you’ll be left with liner all over your eyes. 🙁

Staying power is average too. MAC claims 8 hours of staying power, but the liner loses its intensity in around 5 hours or so. But from my waterline, it was gone in around 4 hours. And I have very dry eyes, so I doubt it will stay for long on with girls with watery eyes.

The liner comes off with an eye makeup remover, but doesn’t comes off with water. However, from my lower lash line, I had to work quite hard to get all off. Even after using a couple of q-tips, I found remnants under my eyes next morning. 🙁

Pros of MAC Technakohl Take the Plunge Liner:

  • Beautiful blue-teal shade.
  • Retractable pencil.
  • Very creamy and smooth.
  • Glides on the lids without any tugging.
  • No sharpening needed, so less product wastage.
  • Color-coded packaging.
  • Travel friendly.
  • Safe for sensitive eyes.

Cons of MAC Technakohl Take the Plunge Liner:

  • Transfers on to upper lids.
  • Loses intensity in around 5 hours.
  • Stays for just around 4 hours on waterline.
  • Average pigmentation.
  • Smudges easily.
  • A bit difficult to remove from lower lash line.

IMBB Rating:
3/5, because with this price and brand, it should be flawless without any transferring or fading.

Would I Repurchase MAC Technakohl Take the Plunge Liner?
Well, no I won’t repurchase this one. I might try other shades, giving them the benefit of doubt that they will be better in performance. I would not recommend this unless you are a MAC loyalist because at this price, there are better options.

  1. Beautiful teal color, but I have seen the same shade by other brands which do not lose intensity or fet transferred. :/

  2. A very pretty teal but I already own a similar shade in another brand which works wonders for me. This, for me, seems to be an average product which is super expensive compared to it’s performance.. :/
