MAC Whirl Lip Pencil Review

MAC Whirl Lip Pencil Review

Product Description:

A pencil designed for shaping, lining or filling in the lip. Lip Pencils have a smooth, creamy texture that is perfect for lining the lips or filling them in. They are long-lasting and available in a wide selection of colours that each work well with many different lipstick shades.  MAC describes Whirl as a “dirty rose” colour.

Price:

820 INR for 1.45 gm.

My Take on MAC Whirl Lip Pencil:

MAC lives up to the claim of these lip pencils. They’re great at their job: they are smooth and creamy, they line the lips perfectly, and they keep the lipstick in place. Moreover, every shade of the lip liner pencil that you select will work very well with many different shades of lipstick. Hence, choose smartly.

Whirl is a dusty rose colour that can pass off as a neutral deep pink as well as a pinkish brown. It works well with several lipsticks of mine, including MAC Craving, MAC “O” and Lancôme Color Design Ooh La La. Usually, I just outline my lips with the pencil, but one can also use it to fill in the lips. Since Whirl is a somewhat neutral pinkish-brown colour, it will not really effect the colour of the lipstick that is used on top.

MAC Lip Pencil

It prevents the lipstick from bleeding, feathering and from settling in the fine lines of the lips.

When worn by itself, it shows up as a beautiful dusty pink-brown colour on the lips that will suit a lot of skin tones (from very light to medium dark).

The colour pigmentation of the lipstick is quite decent. One can easily build up the colour as per one’s preference. The staying power is quite impressive. Like a good lip liner, this one doesn’t fade too easily.

Lip Pencil

Since MAC lip pencils are expensive, I would suggest that you buy a handful of them (if not fewer) that will cover almost all your lipsticks and will also work as beautiful lip colours by themselves. What I personally like about these lip liners is that they are often very creamy and very matte. Whirl lip pencil has the same creamy and matte texture that makes it a very long-lasting, useful and wearable shade. Every pencil packs in a lot of product, which will last you a long time.

Pros of MAC Whirl Lip Pencil:

  • Very neutral pink-brown and wearable shade that will complement a lot of lipsticks.
  • Creamy and smooth texture that applies easily and doesn’t dry out the lips.
  • Outlines the lips perfectly without showing up as a prominent line.
  • Keeps the lipstick from bleeding, feathering and settling in the fine lines of the lips.
  • Can be worn as a lip colour by itself.
  • Good staying power.
  • Good colour pigmentation.
  • Neutral shade that will suit many skin tones.
  • It is a long pencil. It contains a lot of product that will last a long time.

Cons of MAC Whirl Lip Pencil:

  • Although this is a smooth lip liner pencil, I have used lip liners that are smoother.

Tip: Keep the pencil sharpened for better, more precise and smoother application.

Apart from complementing and enhancing lipstick, this lip liner can be paired with a nourishing lip balm underneath or a lip gloss on top, or it can be worn just by itself.

Verdict on MAC Lip Pencil Whirl:

Nice, neutral pink shade of lip liner that can be used in many ways. It is smooth, decently pigmented and lasts a long time. It complements a lot of lipstick shades and looks nice even when worn by itself. The texture could be just a little bit smoother (when I think in terms of comparisons), but it is definitely worth a try both as far as the colour and the texture are concerned.

Hi Poo, I agree with you. I would much rather spend on a MAC lipstick rather than a lip liner, but with this one I decided to indulge :)

Richa, I love this. And Spice is my all time Fav. As you said, thats what i did, stocked up a few, a nuetral , pink, brown and brick shade. These will mix and match for almost all lippie shades.
