Makeup and Beauty Shopping – Clinique, Lakme, Bourjois
Though I am very excited about my haul I am not sure whether I should be really happy about it or should be not so happy about it as only recently my sis sent so many gifts for me and in spite of that I got so many products. 🙁
Everything started when I got a message from Lifestyle, Chennai saying they have opened the new Clinique counter!!!!!!! I was really waiting to try the 3-step skin care system. Told my mom about it and she readily accompanied me to the mall. Once reaching there she declared I can buy whatever I want as it has been a long time since she took me out for shopping. So the shopping became a little bigger that I had planned.
Clinique
As soon as we entered there was this Clinique store welcoming us right in the front of the mall. We just walked in directly and did our skin analysis. They had a set of 8 questions to determine the skin type. Also the SA ran her finger all over my face to check the skin. My skin was type-2 Combination and mum’s was type-1 Dry. Mum was very convinced with their products and she insisted me that I buy the kit for myself. I actually wanted to get only the trial pack but she got one kit for herself and one for me as well. I have started using it already and I love it.
They asked if I have any other concerns regarding my skin. I mentioned about the black heads around my nose. She suggested a face wash, sun block and another cream for this problem but I thought I shall get it later.
The SA told that she will get back to us in a weeks time to check how much we like the product. I really liked the way the SAs were explaining, suggesting and analyzing for us. They seem to be trained well and looked professional too.
There were so many other products that grabbed my attention but I restricted myself and just left the place immediately after we bought the kit. The kit was Rs.3480 each!!!! My only disappointment here was there were no freebies other than the samples they gave ☹ as the message I got read they are giving free gifts as well.
Bourjois
Then I walked to the Bourjois counter to check out the Elastic Mascara and Bourjois Rose Exclusif Gloss. I loved both the gloss and the mascara as well. These are my first products from this brand.
I was not very sure whether I have to try the mascara after Rati’s review, but she said it might just work for me, so gave it a try. It did give good length and volume to my lashes and I really liked it. When I tried removing it last night I had to apply oil twice to remove but everything came off completely leaving no trace. It didn’t sting my eyes. I saw 2 lashes in the cotton swab I used, so was wondering whether was I very hard or it is just the mascara that caused the shedding. Have to find this out next.
I am crazy about the gloss now. The gloss lasts long and also the shade changes over time and I totally love the color it shows on my lips. I am absolutely in love with this gloss. This leaves my lips really glossy with a light pink tint. The shade turns darker as time passes. I don’t remember loving any gloss so much recently.
Lakme
I got the Lakme Aquashine lip color in Old Rose. This was another product I was craving for. Though I liked the gloss and it just did what I expected out of it, after using the Bourjois gloss, this didn’t please me much. I liked the shade ‘Old Rose’ very much. I had to debate between ‘Fig’ and ‘Old Rose’ but after trying it on my lips I liked ‘Old Rose’ better.
I didn’t intend to buy anything else until the SA showed me this Lakme Eyeartist eyeliner. This looked like a marker and she said it is very easy to apply. Since I am still learning / struggling to apply a liquid liner properly I thought I should get this one. This was very convenient to use and also the dark black color attracted me more. SA said that I can use it even in my lower lash line. Have to try that soon.
So that is my haul and I am just carrying a smile with me always relishing the wonderful shopping experience with my mum. It has been a long time since I went out for shopping with mum and until yesterday I didn’t realize how much I missed all the fun.
That was a lovely haul Aarthi..The products you have bought are really worth it and so it does not qualify for an over indulgence 🙂
I am planning for the 3 step system.
Kinda p****d with the Clinique SA’s in Blr-both the counters..They behave as if people who go there are walking in just like that for tester stuff they give :reallyangry:
Saw a similar kit in Amway and lovely reviews too on their stuff. Planning to go ahead with it 🙂 It is slightly more expensive than Clinique, but I wouldn’t mind.
Would love to see your review on the elastic mascara too..

Glad the mascara worked for you. I tried applying it 2-3 times after that and the same problem happened. If by chance my lashes used to touch the inner of my eyes, my eyes stung badly. 🙁 And the mascara is waterproof so I am not surprised if your lashes came off. Just let the makeup remover sit on your lashes for good 30 seconds and then swipe off the mascara.

Oh I never go to the Clinique counter…ever…cos those SAs scare me – don’t find them nice like Chanel or Shiseido. I am so scared to go the Shiseido outlet cos its right next to this one!! Aarthi…you buying buying buying…we all are raiding your house for sure…why did you get the rubberband mascara though…never mind, will give that to Minnie.

Great haul Aarthi!! 🙂 i went to the Clinique counter to get my skin analysed too today! 🙂 but i was unsure about everything the SA said.. plus, they dint have any trial packs.. so i let it go.. bought my first concealer today! 😀 the mac select moisturecover. 🙂 so me happy too!! (i know its out of context, but i was too excited to share. 😛 oh and i cant wear lipsticks! 🙁 tried the pink petal from Maybelline, i looked like Lady Gaga.)

*sure. i dont think i can ever carry off a lipstick. only nivea strawberry lip balm in my friend. thats almost how pigmented my lips are.. ORANGGGEEE!!

oh i misinterpreted what you said. i thought she forced you to buy it and you did.
it’s difficult for me to say what shades will suit you. i don’t want you to end up with lipsticks you won’t use.
my only advice to people who’re starting off with lipsticks is to buy a sheer finish. mattes will look too stark and you might feel uncomfortable wearing solid colours all of a sudden. the body shop and mac have wonderful sheer finishes and really pretty shades too. you don’t have to bother too much with such finishes because even if the colour does not suit you PERFECTLY, you can still carry it off. both these companies don’t test on animals too. 🙂

maybelline does test on animals and so does l’oreal. l’oreal is actually this huge group with brands like garnier, lancome, maybelline etc. the group recently acquired the body shop but since the body shop has a strict no animal testing policy, the takeover did not lead to any change in policy.

ahhh just found out clinique test when required by law so do bobbi brown so ignore what i said about clinique! i just choose completely cruelty free companies. :-)) thanks for being a kind person and asking about non animal testing companies if everyone did as u do then these companies wouldn’t exist 🙂

That is such a lovely haul! I have a question though. We don’t have Lakme here in Romania (Europe), and I am very curious about the quality and price of the items. I have been a Vipasha Agarwal fan ever since “I See You” (<3 Arjun ;), and that's how I discovered this brand, as she is the image.

Hi Alexandra. Though all of us here complain a lot about Lakme we do end up buying few things from ths brand. Price is usually ok not very expensive. Also it depends on the product :silly:

Interesting Haul. I heard that 3 step causes break outs too for the first few days as the skin purges out the impurities. Is that the case ? ?:-)
Also do u have any idea about the Clinique Pore Perfector? There are raving reviews about it…
Worked fine for me…never had any problem with it.
It worked for me too Lavanya. No break outs till now. They actually suggested me to get the pore perfector but I didnt 🙁

I got the 3 step as well.. Loving it.. I might get the kit after I finish my Clarin’s.. But like I told you, I need to do a complete test of Clinique before making my purchase 🙂
