Makeup Geek Unexpected Eyeshadow Review

Hello everyone,

Well, it seems like the amazing streak of luck I was having with Makeup Geek shadows has come to a bump in the road. My expectations have just become so high with these eyeshadow singles and it doesn’t prepare me for when an eyeshadow is so bad as the one I am going to share with you. This review will be on the shade “Unexpected” by Makeup Geek.

Makeup Geek Unexpected Eyeshadow Review

Product Description:
I’ll tell you what’s unexpected…when your mother-in-law decides it’s time for her to visit. Fabulous. I’m so glad I had a heads up on that one…my house is a mess, I didn’t do laundry, and I can’t remember the last time I went grocery shopping…BUT I do have a fantastic pink eyeshadow to wear!

My Experience with Makeup Geek Unexpected Eyeshadow:

Packaging:  This eyeshadow comes in a pan which you have to pop in a magnetic palette. I do like the flexibility this provides for customizing a palette based on your needs but this also means you have to shell out extra to buy the Z palette on top of buying the eyeshadow.

Pigmentation/Shade: “Unexpected” is described as a matte pale pink brown. It is a very cool-toned shade and has a hint of light purple to it as well. I don’t find this shade flattering on my warm skin tone and the light nature of this shade and lack of pigmentation just was a deal breaker for me. It was truly unexpected to me how bad this shade was. It was lacking pigmentation and tended to sheer out considerably during blending. It really benefited from a primer to give it a boost in pigmentation department.

Finish and Texture:  This shade felt very dry in the pan. The matte finish looked flat.

Staying Power:  It stayed barely 6 hours before I noticed fading. On oily lids or without a primer, this might fade even faster.

Overall, I am thoroughly enjoying using Makeup Geek eyeshadows most of the time, but this shade was an absolute no go. I would not at all recommend this shade.

In the EOTD, I have used the shade “Drama Queen” all over the lid blended with “unexpected” in the crease.
