Makeup Revolution Golden Sugar Ultra Blush Palette Review

Skin tone: medium
Skin type: normal-dry

I love Makeup Revolution, especially for its palettes. I was looking for a nice blush palette when I stumbled upon this one. This palette apparently offers blushers, bronzers, and highlighters. I was really excited to try it out, but it reminded me a lot of Lakme makeup products. Want to know why? Keep reading!

My Experience with Makeup Revolution Golden Sugar Ultra Blush Palette:

What! An MUR product reminded me of Lakme? Yes! This palette has so much shimmers that it can give Lakme a run for its money. Shimmers are all I see in palette, and they DO disappoint me. All the shades come packaged in a sturdy palette with a full-size mirror. As you can see in the image, I have abused this packaging a lot. These shades do not have any names so I have numbered the shades for your convenience. Overall, the packaging is strong and travel-friendly. I really like it.

Even though shadows are full of shimmers, they blend quite easily. Excess blending makes the color fade and then shimmers become more prominent. All the shades, I mean each and every shade, look so gorgeous in the palette. I can keep admiring these shades for hours. 😀 With all its blushes, bronzers and highlighters, this palette could have been really useful and promising. But, there is one glitch. The shimmers in this palette do not look very flattering, at least not on my skin tone. Also, wish the pigmentation were a little better. After all this is a blush palette and blushes are supposed to add color to your face. Anyway, let’s check out each shade in detail:

Makeup Revolution Golden Sugar Ultra Blush Palette

1. An icy white – this one is a very metallic highlighter shade. It can be used only as an eyeshadow on my skin tone. I dread using this one as a highlighter.

Shade 1 Golden Sugar

2. Light pink – this one has the right amount of shimmers and pigmentation. Still, this shade is best suited for fair skin tones, I feel. It’s a beautiful shimmery blush shade nonetheless. Shimmers in this one are finely milled and hence this is one of the “workable” shades.

shade 2 Golden Sugar

3. Pink-plum blush – with the least amount of shimmer, this is my most favorite blusher from the palette. It suits my complexion well and has a nice satin finish.

shade 3 Golden Sugar

4. Golden shimmer – yes, that’s what I feel about this one. This shade is full of golden shimmers and can be used as a highlighter. I feel it will look very pretty as a highlighter on deeper skin tones. Of course, it is wonderful as an eyeshadow. This one can be used as a bronzer as well; you just need to keep your skin tone in mind. Definitely not meant for my skin tone.

shade 4 Golden Sugar

5. Beige bronzer – it looks so perfect and pretty in the pan; wish the shimmers in this one were finely milled. The shimmers in this shade, even after blending well, look too prominent and accentuate pores. Major turn off!

shade 5 Golden Sugar

6. Bronzy-mauve – this shade looks almost rose gold in the packaging and is so much full of shimmers. I have used this ‘blush’ as an eyeshadow so much in the past few months. It looks very very gorgeous as an eyeshadow but, due to shimmers, it does not look great as a blusher or bronzer on my skin tone.

shade 6 Golden Sugar

7. Orange copper – again, not for my skin tone. Darker skin tones can use it as a bronzer, but fair and medium skin tones just can not. The shimmers in this one are bearable, though.

shade 7 Golden Sugar

8. Warm brown – I wanted to use this matte brown for contouring but then I prefer browns with cool undertones for contouring. This warm shade does not flatter my skin tone and looks rather orange on me.

shade 8 Golden Sugar

The longevity too of this pallete isn’t impressive. Owing to low pigmentation, the product does not stay on the skin for long, even though I do not have oily skin. The color wears off too soon – within a few hours – and then all you’re left with is shimmer. This shimmer does not look very flattering as it’s not as finely milled. Also, this shimmer accentuates pores and clings to peach fuzz/hairs.

Makeup Revolution Golden Sugar

I do not have to say much about this palette. It just failed to impress me as a blush palette. However, I often use these blushes as eyeshadows and these shades look better as eyeshadows. I am particularly a fan of shade number 6 as it looks perfect with ethnic wear (as an eyeshadow). This palette can be used better by deeper skin tones and during professional shoots may be; it’s not for regular, day-to-day wear. These shades aren’t universally flattering and the staying power is too low.
