Makeup Suggestion for MAC NC 45 Skintone

Ask IMBB Gang

Merin Asks :

I am pretty much a silent reader of IMBB and though i had asked you for foundation suggestions a loooong time back, you said to post it on the site but i was too shy to do so :))). And i also don’t see many posters on the side of my color (NC 45-ish) except for maybe Mrunmayee. It’s sooo hard trying to find out what will suit me and obviously, Indians would be more suited to give recommendations than anyone else about our skin tones. Is there any way i could do that without having to reveal too much about myself ( im soooo shy !!! embarrassing!!!) I wanted to get some foundation, primer, blush, concealer, contour/bronzer, eyeshadow, lipstick/lipgloss, etc that will suit my skin tone.

I also wanted to ask you something else. I wanted to buy some nyx stuff from cherry culture because of the ongoing sale, but i dont know if i should make a small purchase n see if it gets here or make a bigger one n take advantage of the sale but the shipping charge is just ridiculous, na. So what do you suggest ? do a smaller order n see if it gets here or is it safe to go ahead and make a bigger purchase ? or check out porkdaisy

Pleas do reply as soon as you can so that i can go ahead with my purchase.

P.S since, u know im an NC 45ish, any shade recommendations from NYX products? i have pretty pigmented lips, so that’s a thing to consider too..

  1. Mac verve lipstick is a plum brown shade you could try or mac taupe for nude look, Mac cosmo for a neutral look. Revlon matte fabulous fig shade/Max factor terra lipstick will definitely suit your dusky skin. Chambor coral reef is something that might suit you. Chambor blushes and glitzy glosses are really pigmented and gives an opaque finish. Hope this helps. O:) O:)

  2. Welcome to IMBB Merin and you don’t have to be so shy. :))

Here are some of my suggestions for blush. Since I am not sure if you are in India or abroad, i am listing whatever i can recall as of now.

    NYX blush cocoa, Pinky, cinnamon
MAC blush ambering rose, MAC raizin blush
    NARS Gina, Dolce Vita

You you would probably have to go to the store to find your right shade of foundation according to your skin type and skin tone. ๐Ÿ™‚

I really like the makeup for ever primer but there are good reviews about the NYX primer and MAC as well:

  3. regarding lipsticks you may pick up shades of plums, soft pinks, and wines. They are very flattering on your skin tones.

Some natural shades for you MAC Viva Glam Gaga I, MAC Creme D’ Nude, NYX Mega Lip Shine – True Star, Loreal Infallible – Nutmeg (800)

  4. regarding buying stuff from cherry culture, If you are choosing a first class shipping option there is no harm in placing a bigger order.

NYX round lipsticks are fantastic and quite pigmented. You may take a look at them. Check out NYX round lipstick in perfect, medusa, milan, lala

prokdiasy offers stuff at lower shipping prices. A few people here have had quite a good experience with porkdaisy.

  5. NYX lipliner in nutmeg is amazing for darker skin tones and looks wonderful paired with NYX lipsticks in MARS, Milan, Doll. MAC Brick-o-la is also a good red color for darker tones without being too OTT.
For nude shades, I’d recommend Creamy Beige. I have pretty pigmented lips too and these colors look great!
I ordered quite a few products from cherryculture about a month and a half ago and they reached me okay…i’d suggest u take the usps tracking option while choosing shipping…it costs a couple dollars more but will give u a peace of mind to know where ur package is!

    1. totally agree on that. you know my package reached safely even with the cheaper shipping option . but i wouldnt take that chance again. :((

  6. Hey Merin! Methinks you should try this blush Ambre D’Or from Bourjois Paris..It’s a deep peach color with very subtle golden shimmer and I think this’ll make ur cheeks glow healthy!
It’s a lovely international brand so no compromise on the quality, plus this guy Bourjois invented blushes! So there u go for the unwanted gyaan bit, can’t help, I blabber too much! Umm for the lipsticks, apart from the suggestions above, I’d like to add 1 more, MAC Freckletone.. would go well with this blush (It’s nude+peachy+subtly golden)..Hope this helps O:)

  7. Hey Merin, my complexion and colour are similar to yours. So some of what I like, may suit you too.

I adore eyeshadows and lipsticks. Some of my favourite lipsticks (and they may work for you as well) are Maybelline Color Sensational shades in ‘Autumn Rush’ (this is my MLBB shade); ‘Tinted Taupe’; ‘Crazy for Coffee’. Colorbar shades in ‘Naked Pink’; ‘Twig’, ‘Iced Tea’; ‘Pure Innocence’.

My favourite eyeshadows are NYX eyeshadows in ‘Latte Foam’; ‘Walnut Bronze’; ‘Golden Bronze’; MAC eyeshadows in ‘Mulch’; ‘Bronze’; ‘Sable’.

The Colorbar blush in ‘Fuschia’ and the Lakme Earth Trio suit me well.

    Hope this helps, ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Thanks for your recs, ST ! I guess colorbar’s only available in India. I’ll be sure to check the others out.
Do u use foundation ?Any recs for foundation for combo oily acne prone skin ?

  8. Woah….Rati !! I wasnt expecting to see my name up here…u gave me a nice jhatka out of the blue…still feeling a lil shy :shying: but i guess i’ll get over that :shy: :shy: i do have a knack for typing more than i talk, so it should b ok…now that im out in the open i have TONS of questions for all of you lovelies:P
Hmmm…thanks for all the suggestions so far, ladies…im currently in UAE, Rati( great haul uve done while you were here, btw :waytogo: )…and im from Kerala(where, im sure if there r more mallus out here will agree, makeup is seen as a no-no but im totally MAD about it!) but the issue is ive no idea wat works for me…ive been trying out various foundations at the stores; tried out MUFE HD once at sephora (a lil while back when i had no idea wat works for me) she painted me with 125 n i looked like a ghost…she insisted it was the right shade for me n that everyone wants to look fair…i gave her a dirty look n told her i wanted it to suit my skin tone n not look fair n then walked out…horrid, i tell u…then after reading n reading n viewing tons of videos, i went back n tried out Mat velvet + 70 & HD 173…both were much better but i didnt get time to give it a full day’s run to see how it looks later on, ive combo oily skin, so i think it might oxidise later on..im confused whether to try MUFE or MAC foundation..i keep reading MAC breaks out some n tht MUFE is superior in its foundation formula. Also, tht MAC’s concealers are best. What are your thoughts? I do have dark undereye circles which are there on my eyelids too…Any suggestions, all welcome ๐Ÿ™‚

Ive been checking out all the lip shades you mentioned. Thanks Bhawana, Manisha & Sukanya( unwanted gyaan’s always welcome :P)!
Im under the impression tht browns suit me the best. I used to ve NYX brown sugar and now i have tea rose( washes me out if applied heavily) and calisto (looks more red than brown on me) im looking for more natural shades n nude colors too. Would creamy beige look like i applied concealer? any idea about circe, honey, rhea, echo shades on darker skin tones? Ive been planning to get some NYX stuff, which is why im concentrating on shades from them.
Pork Daisy has piqued my interest mainly because the shipping is lower and i could get more products ๐Ÿ™‚

      1. merin you may try the mufe hd foundation. sinc eyou are able to find a close match to your skin tone in that range i guess you cna go ahead with it. it’s is really nice.

I love mac concealers. except select cover up and sculpt i have tried rest of them. if you have very bad dark circles check the NW range and mac and see how it works for you. you may also check the mufe camoflage palette. it has various shades so you’d be able to work with various shades of concealers to neutralize your dark circles.

        hope that helps. ๐Ÿ™‚

        1. Thanks Rati…i’ll try out the MAC concealers next. I went n tried out the MUFE primer n MAT velvet + shade 65 yest, and both were pretty okay but i didnt see much in terms of oil control (ive a really oily T zone especially the nose) inspite of hearing good things abt the product in those terms. Is the HD foundation good for oily skin ?
Also, the MUFE primer seems to have some weird scent, doesnt it? (i get headaches if my nose doesnt like the smell )
I know you have dry skin but do you happen to know of any unscented primer and also any other product which has good oil control and if its a powder , which is not white? i feel white powder casts greyish tint on my face. Do you know if the NYX primer is good for oily skin and is not too scented?

I badly need something which provides good oil control, evens out my skin tone and reduces pores and also doesnt transfer. Its really hot here and im blotting away with tissue paper n all my MUFE foundation yest was on it ! Is the MAC SFF better in these terms ?

P.S Sorry for all the questions!

          1. Hi Merin!!Have you tried Maybelline dream Matte powder. It’s excellent in oil control. My sis has very oily skin and I had recommended her dream matte and she is absolutely loving it.She stays in Mumbai..hot and humid weather you know and it’s working good for her. Just try if you get your shade in it.. There are not many options in shade selection. About foundation..I love bourjois healthy mix foundation/Mac select spf 15 foundation/chanel vitalumiere aqua foundation. I have tried them all and loved them too.And Mac one didn’t break me out but everyone has different skin type so I don’t know if they will work for you. Ingrid (misglamorazzi) swears by chanel vitalumiere aqua foundation and she has very oily skin. You can always ask for samples for high end brands and see if they work for you.Personally I thinks MAc has a vast range of shades and you can easily find your match.
For lipsticks go for plummy, maroon or dark mauvish colors. I have pigmented lips and I love the following lipsticks: MAC plumful, fast play for plummy shades, Mac spice it up, dubonnet for red, for MLBB colors revlon rose velvet (I love this one a lot), victoria secret’s Melt are some options ๐Ÿ™‚

  9. Is it too late to answer the question? I only went yesterday to the MAC store located here in Trinidad. I am let’s say 3/4 indian and 1/4 chinese! The foundation that matches my skin tone was the NC 45 from the Mineralise satin finish spf 15. For lipsticks I choose a pink everyday colour called “Sweetie”, a more neutral colour called “Hug me”, brown tone called “Viva glam VI” and then just something different called “Ultra darling” which is a sheer medium pink. Just for reference, if I want more coverage of the foundation I use the Revlon colorstay combination/ oily typ in Toast. Hope this was helpful to you.
