Some Updates on Makeup and stuff

by Rati on December 21, 2009 · 13 comments

friendsSaturday was a girl’s day out for me. I was catching up with my friends after a long time. We decided to meet at 3Cs so I thought I would check some of the makeup counters at Westside as well. Also, since I have some reviews on Lakme products coming up, I thought I would take the updates on the prices. To my surprize, there was no Lakme counter in Westside. When I enquired, they said that there were a lot of product complaints coming up so they had removed the counter.

Then I moved to the Chambor counter. They have some amazing foundations in Rs 900 range and the pricingof  over all range is not something that would hurt your pocket. The quality, I felt, was good. Can’t say much on that front until I use them myself. However, I guess this is one brand I am really going to explore. The eye shadows, the eyeliners , the lipsticks…all interested me. The reason I didn’t buy anything from the range was that as of now I have pretty much of everything in my makeup kit.

Next was the maybelline counter. They have an offer going on where if you buy anything for Rs 500, they will give you a mascara or a eyeliner free. I bought the Maybelline Chai Latte eyeshadow quad (Rs 225) and I forgot I had to buy the gel liner. :( So I couldn’t avail the discount offer.

Here it is:

Maybelline Chai Latte

Maybelline Chai Latte

I love how matte the two colours are in the Chai latte Quad. I love the moderately glittered brow colour. I love the price. I love the thoughtful inclusion of two felt brushes. :)

Although I would be using the darkest brown for my eyebrows and not as my shadow. I would use my colorbar’s brownie. I noticed that the matte brown looked as if I have got huge dark circles on my eyes. While the same colour looked perfect for my eyebrows. So nothing is going to go waste from this palette. The brownie from Colorbar made my eyes pop and dancing. :)

Look at theMaybelline Chai Latte Quad swatches.

They have also included how you could use the colours for a variety of looks. In fact, I feel the brow bone colour and the lid colour could be used with a lot more shades.

My friends and I ate, chatted and chatted more then we came back to Westside again. :P  The Revlon sales attendant approached us a for a free Revlon Makeover. I think since Lakme was out of the shop now, they were trying to promote the closest competitor to increase their sales. I forced my two friends, Pooja and Mauli, to get the makeover. While I love doing makeup, they have nothing to do with the so called makeup. :D

Anyway, I would skip the part about how well the SA did the makeup. I totally loved Revlon’s eyeliners (Rs 400) and Revlon’s colorstay Ultimate lipstick colour (don’t remember the price). SO so pretty! OMG! The eyeliners were creamy and had a hint of silver sparkle. I also liked their New Complexion Liquid Makeup. It is an oil free foundation with SPF4, gives light to medium coverage. It gives a no makeup look but evens out your skin tone.

Revlon

Revlon

I somehow didn’t like Revlon’s Colorstay Mineral Foundation. I don’t know it just gave a very powdery look and didn’t blend well with the skin. When I asked the SA as to whey is it giving such a powdery finish. She gave me an amazed expression and said, ” Ma’m mineral foundation??”

Yeah!!  As if I am so uneducated makeup greenhorn who didn’t know what mineral foundation was and that “such high tech foundations” are supposed to give that dusty powdery finish. :D

I couldn’t resist myself from taking this prohibited picture at Westside. :P Actually, I took it before reading the signboard. Yay! :) (click to enlarge)

Merry Christmas

I am also going to Select City Walk today to buy some makeup brushes. I have wasted so much money on buying these local brushes that now I’d rather buy some good ones either from Colorbar or Mac.  Any recommendations for brushes, gurlies? I am yet to spend, you know. :D

I called up the Mac store to check the prices of some of the MAC products. And before I start hiccuping, here they are :P

Mac fluid line: Rs 950

Mac Lipsticks: Rs 920 +

Mac 222 and 217 brushes : Rs 1450 each (Ouch!!)

Mac eye shadows: Rs 820

Mac Studio tech foundation Rs 1750

I am going to faint now!

Since I would be going to Select City walk today, do you guys want me to check out something for you? There’s Lancome, Lush, Mac, Colorbar, Maybelline, Revlon, BodyShop, Forest Essentials,  etc etc. :)

Hey, I too have this Chai Latte pallette from Maybelline. Really like the colors, esp the light, light taupe for the lid (1).. This is my daily eyeshadow for office. Goes well with all my colored eyeliners :D

I have heard a lot about Revlon’s foundations – the liquid one seems to get good reviews online. Their eyeliners are nice, I have the brown one but not as intensely pigmented as i would have liked them to be, or maybe it is just the one i have..

That’s what. Taupe is such a great base colour.. You could just use it under any colour and it would just make a great base for most eyeshadows. I instantly fell in love with the browbone colour as well. It goes on like nothing on your eyes with just the right hint of highlight. Love it! :) By the way, what makeup brushes you use to apply your shadows?

I also saw the chocolate brown one only. I liked it. I guess since you have already used it, you would be a better judge to give a feedback. :)

Cynthia, I guess we must catch up some time soon. We would have crossed and wouldn’t have recognized each other. :) Yes, my break up with Lakme is already done. I am past Lakme now. :D

I went to Inglot today to buy the matte nail paints. The colours are not purely matte, I would say they are semi matte.

Hi Divija,

You are sick and still you managed to write so much. :P I will let you know the prices of all the products. :) Promise. I got the whole price list of colorbar brushes that I would be posting soon. They are such fine brushes at a lower price and they are also made up of goat hair only. But I realized that MAC specializes in some brushes like 219 and 22 and no matter where you go, you would not find dupes of the. Atleast, not in India. We can definitely chat, I’ll send you a mail.! :) I have Mac Mineralize skin finish natural and it costed me Rs 1340.

Thank you for the brush updates, they were very helpful :) I won’t look confused again. :D

And sweetheart, before you come back to India, I’ll get you the prices and info about all the stuff that you want.

I am not anti SA, in fact I always look forward to get some kind of help from them. But you know how they are in India at all these stores. There are very few that know exactly what they are doing. In most cases, they just want to sell as much as they can.

*Hugs*
