Maybelline ClearGlow Bright Benefit Cream Review

So, the much anticipated Maybelline BB cream is here after all the ballyhoo/hype. Maybelline has definitely managed to pull ladies back to their counters by launching the BB cream here in India.  Those of you who are still not aware of what BB creams are, read following:

BB cream, also known as Blemish Balm, Blemish Base or Beblesh Balm, is a cosmetic item sold mainly in East and Southeast Asia.  Originally formulated in Germany it was initially used by dermatologists to help laser surgery patients protect, soothe and refine highly sensitive skin while providing light coverage for post-laser scars, acne and other blemishes.  BB creams come in a variety of different formulations and qualities. Some are said to have skin whitening or brightening properties. Others are said to be anti-acne or anti-wrinkle, some are intended to even out skin tone, and yet others to lighten blemish scars. BB creams are sometimes used like a primer under foundation, and if tinted may supposedly replace foundation and some newer ones are advertised as having functions of primer, foundation, moisturizer, sun block, pore minimization and skin refining together, making them an economic skin care solution.
Brands on the market aside others include BRTC – Bio Remedies Therapeutic Cosmetic, Dr. Jart, Lioele, Skin Food,Etude, The Face Shop, Missha and SKIN79.

In recent years BB cream has gained a noticeable following for its skin-regenerating functions and is now also widely used in Asia to supposedly provide natural-looking skin coverage. It has been named “the secret of Korean actresses”,which gained it large exposure in Asian markets.

Here’s the  list of top 20 BB creams.

The shade card has been picked up from the official Maybelline India website.

While I had ordered for the Maybelline BB cream online, I did see it at a counter yesterday and thought of taking a swatch picture for your reference. The images are not really clear as I took them with my phone.

My Verdict on Maybelline ClearGlow Bright Benefit Cream:

Like most of you, I was excited when I learnt about the launch of Maybelline’s BB cream in India. I kept a close watch on all Maybelline counters and asked the SAs to call me as soon as the cream arrives on the counters. While surfing one online shopping website, I saw that this Maybelline cream was available there (even when it had not reached the counters, amazing isn’t it !!!).  So, the very inquisitive me couldn’t keep myself away from getting it online.

While I felt happiest that I got to use/try the cream before most of the girls, just two days back, I learnt that I have bought myself a wrong shade :headbang: When I ordered it online, I saw the shade 01 Nude.  I immediately thought 01 would obviously be the lightest shade of all. When I checked the Maybelline website two days ago, I saw that 01 Nude is the darkest shade out of the three. I checked the shades on the counter as well and I feel that I should have picked between Natural or Radiance for my skin tone. Anyway, I guess I should go ahead and tell you about the BB cream now.

The Maybelline Clearglow BB Cream is tinted like a foundation and has lotion-like consistency, neither too thick nor runny. It’s a lightweight, water-based cream and blends amazingly into the skin in no time, just like a moisturiser. For my combination skin, I used a moisturiser underneath this, but if you have extremely oily skin, you may miss out on the moisturiser.  For the entire face, I need a little less than a coin-sized quantity.

The cream has slight, pleasant, fruity fragrance which is not bothering to the senses and fades after a minute or so of application.  This cream evens out the complexion, provides light coverage and does brighten up the face instantly, without leaving any whitish cast.

I notice that it gives a slight, natural, healthy skin appearance to my face which stays for about 1-2 hours of application. If your skin does not need a lot of coverage, you can use this instead of a foundation, just like a tinted moisturiser. I liked the fact that even after 5 hours of application, my face didn’t get greasy and this even has SPF 21 (not bad!)

The shade is a bit dark for my skin tone and I can see that on my face on immediate application, but surprisingly, after 5-10 minutes, it adapts to my skin tone and does not look bad. However, I would definitely get myself the right shade soon as I quite like this cream for my routine makeup.

The shade selection of this cream is very limited and I feel they have been created keeping in mind only fair to medium skin tones. Even the darkest shade “Nude” is not very deeply tinted. I wish Maybelline comes up with more shades in this cream.

When I started using this cream, I had 2-3 breakouts on my face and noticed that this cream did not irritate/aggravate them. I don’t think it will give anyone any breakouts.

Overall, I give “thumbs up” to the new Maybelline Clearglow BB Cream.  It is definitely worth a try.

Pros of Maybelline ClearGlow Bright Benefit Cream:

  • Evens out the complexion.
  • Gives light coverage which is apt for routine/daily makeup.
  • Imparts a healthy glow to the face.
  • Brightens the face without leaving any whitish cast.
  • Contains SPF 21.
  • Does not make skin greasy or too oily even after hours of application (on my combination skin).
  • Has slight, pleasant, fruity fragrance.
  • Good packaging, great for travel.
  • Does not clog pores or cause breakouts.
  • Reasonably priced.
  • Easily available across counters in India.

Cons of Maybelline ClearGlow Bright Benefit Cream:

  • Limited shade selection.
  • The quantity you get in one tube is a little less. It won’t last you more than 20-25 days when used daily.
  • Contains parabens.

IMBB Rating:
3.75 on 5 :-* :-* :-*

P.S.* I could not mention about the ingredients list but the package does mention it.  Also, this Maybelline Clear Glow Bright Benefit Cream is different from the regular version of Maybelline’s smooth minerals BB cream.

  2. Hi Nupur,

    Very comprehensive review.

is this launched separately for India? I tried maybelline BB cream in malaysia but the shades were different.these shades look more apt…

I am using the garnier bb cream and it is quite ok.

    1. Hi supriya 🙂 yea, even i think this has been specially Launched in India 🙂
Actually the original BB cream is primarily used by women in Asian Countries (like china, japan ) who have mostly fair skin tone.
Even these 3 shades in Maybelline Clear glow BB cream are apt for fair to medium skin tones only.
      🙂

  3. Hi Nupur, very nice review..I always wondered what a BB cream actually is.. :chewnails :chewnails I think I will definetely try this out! :thanks: :thanks:

  4. Furr this is definitely not the BB cream, it’s the tinted moisturizer no? but so far it works well, i think it is anice option for everyday wear. I have tried the Maybelline BB cream in singapore but the shades were too light for me so I dint pick any.

    1. Hi Rati,

I tried the maybelline BB cream in malaysia…so I think we would have tried the same ones…it was wayyy too light for me as well @NC 43 🙁

    2. Rati, even i have doubt wether it has the same formula like a Blemish Balm cream, i think i ll mail the Maybelline PR and ask :victory2: :victory2:

  5. Nupur, I have used the pond’s tinted moisturizer, but didn’t like it that much because it was a little drying on me…donno why :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: maybe this is good…

  6. Awesome review Nupur :thanks: I always wondered wats a BB cream. i am gonna def try this out .. though havent seen any at the counters yet :waiting:

  7. Very nice review Nupur 🙂 I picked this up in Nude cos’ when I went to the counter it seemed the most neutral shade. Also I tried this on my sis in law who is quite fair and it worked more like a highlighter/ tinted moisturizer on the T zone and cheek bones. Didn’t do much for my pores though 🙁
    TC!

  8. :thanks: Nupur.. :puchhi:

    HI everyone!! long time i came here…. 😉 😉 😉 😉 😉 😉

  11. Hi nupur…gr8 review…. ….but this is more like a tinted moisturiser…..rather than a bb cream….because from what I hav read most bb creams hav healing qualities….like for acne or for dry skin etc….but this one doesnt…..still a good buy considering it doesnt break out….BTW….can this be removed using a facewash or one needs a cleanser to remove this??? 🙂

  12. great review Nupur & a well awaited one….can’t wait to get my hands on this..I m not sure if it’ll suit my skin tone as I hve a dusky skin tone..

    1. ummm Visakhi, one thing cud be that wen u tried at the counter u already had some moisturiser/makeup on ur face and applying this on top of it cud have made ur face more oily. 😐 😐 😐 😐

  17. I saw it at the store the other day and I was ITCHING to buy it :chewnails :chewnails ….but I told myself to wait for someone to review it on IMBB  …and now that you have….I’m buying it!! :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:
I’ll have to beg and grovel a bit…but I feel it’ll be worth it. :preen:

  18. I will buy this for sure, mostly the products which i bought based on you review works for me perfectly, even i have combination skin, not sooo oily, same as yours, might be because of that it works for me i think so..
:thanks: :thanks: :thanks: :thanks: for your review..

Hope this product also will work for me 🙂

  19. I checked this in H&G last night.. Since Neya was sleeping on my shoulders the SA blended it on my skin and I thought it is difficult to blend it [might be coz of the way the SA rubbed it :(] and also I felt the shades didn’t suit me 🙁 so didn’t buy this 🙁

  20. Great review Nupur..Sums it up accurately ! I got mine too n they gave it to me in a cute cloth ag that said “I love bb” and 15% off 🙂 🙂 Great deal 🙂

  21. hi,m 22.i have combination skin.can i us dis cream at dis age?
n my complexion is in between fair n wheatish…sales girl suggested me radiance shade??is it ok??will it be too whity :struggle: ???
n will dis cream serve as foundation??

  22. Praise the LORD!!! BB creams are finally in India~~ ABOUT TIME!!! GRRRRRR… although Maybelline isn’t my fav brand I really have no option here… and I ought to thank them for bringing this TOMBOY friendly product to its most needed consumers!!!

So I just ordered my first!! hope it all goes well, and your review is really helpful, thank you! Answers all my question. Now only practical application remains… If this BB creams works, I shall never have to use foundation again (kidding but seriously) 😛 and I don’t have to worry about my skin ageing from make up!! it does have anti-ageing properties right??

  23. Hello IMBB Team,
I am ordering this cream online and want to know that which shade should i buy. My skin tone is between fair to medium. And my skin is a lil bit oily, so could anyone suggest me what foundation will go with my skin tone and skin type. Kindly guide me on the same.
