Maybelline Color Sensational Lip Gradation – Fuchsia 1 Review

By Nivasini M

Hello ladies!

Maybelline has brought in a new lip product that provides a graded look. The lip gradation concept is quite interesting. Ombre lips are not common is India yet, and probably this is the first product here that caters to this effect. They come in 8 different shades; I have already reviewed Mauve 1, and here is a review on “Fuchsia 1”.

Product Description:
Available in 8 bright, matte shades, this double-sided lip product will inspire you to experiment with your looks and bring out your unique style and personality. The color stick at one end will give a gorgeous pop of color while the cushion blender tool at the other end will give a sexy, graded look. For a complete trend-on look, apply color on the center of your upper lip and use the sponge smudger to extend the color to the outer edges till the contours of your lips or use it as a matte lip color or a lip liner.

how to use

My Experience with Maybelline Color Sensational Lip Gradation – Fuchsia 1:

Packaging:
It is a dual-ended pen with one end having the lip crayon and the other end having the sponge smudger. Both the ends are secured with a pull-up cap. The smudger is covered with a see-through black cap. The shade name is mentioned at the bottom of the tube. I have no clue why this shade is called Fuchsia 1 as there seem to be no Fuchsia 2 and so on.

The packaging is sleek and represents the actual color of the lip crayon, making it easy to identify the shade. You need to twist from the bottom to glide up and down the lip crayon, and it comes in a retractable form. The manufacturing date is engraved on the tube. All other information is provided only in the tear sheet and not in the actual product.

Texture:
The texture is very creamy and smooth. It is super pigmented and not sticky. As it is a matte lip crayon, it gives a powder finish with no shine. It glides easily on the lips and is very lightweight. It is not at all drying. Because of its creaminess, it tends to break. The texture is created in such a way that the color smudges and gives a graded look.

Performance:
The lip color is a creamy, matte lip crayon. The crayon is not thick as a chubby stick and not thin as a lip liner, so it is easy to line and fill in the lips. Its tapered tip is very helpful while applying at the corners of the lips. It is highly pigmented, and one swipe is enough even on pigmented lips. This shade is a blue-based pink—that is, the perfect fuchsia pink. The lip color glides like butter and does not settle into fine lines.

Unlike Mauve 1, this shade does cling on to dry patches, so you do have to make sure to exfoliate your lips very well. As I have pigmented lips, when I try to apply this shade to darken on few places, it gives a patchy and uneven finish. But the finish looks odd only when viewed up close.

packaging

The product feels soft and nothing on the lips. It does not budge and sets quickly. It does transfer but not crazily like other creamy lipsticks. Though not hydrating, it is certainly not drying on the lips. It does not bleed. This shade stays on for 6 hours with eating and drinking. The color does not fade away completely but leaves behind a beautiful stain. As it is a darker shade, a makeup remover is a must to remove it.

smudger

Now let us talk about the lip gradation part. I have pigmented lips, and this graded lips concept did not work for me. The graded effect looked like a normal lipstick that is rubbed off around the sides, showing up more like a mistake rather than an effect created using a specific tool. Perhaps people with pink or non-pigmented lips can get the perfect graded lips with darker shades. The smudger was not that great, and I am not going to use it. It does accentuate fine lines and dry patches when smudged with this smudger. Overall, I definitely love wearing this product just as a normal lipstick.
