Hi beautiful ladies!

Today I am reviewing a new lipstick I bought a few days back. Maybelline’s Colorshow Creamy Matte Range has become quite popular and I bought quite a few shades. Here is the review on Lively Violet/ M401 from the same range.

Packaging:
It comes in a pretty black casing with a color coded band. The cap closes with a click and it is easy to carry.

My Experience with Maybelline Colorshow Lively Violet Creamy Matte Lipcolor:

I had bought this color online as I was searching for a decent purple-violet shade for my mother; Lively Violet sounded promising. However I am disappointed with the shade as it is a milkish pale violet. It looks more like a pinkish tint with violet undertones. My hopes of a rich violet hue were smashed. The problem with this shade is that it won’t suit many complexions. My mother and I are both on the fairer side and it doesn’t actually look very flattering. Dusky beauties won’t find this an appealing choice.

The lipstick has a light, pleasing vanilla fragrance which doesn’t bother me. However most people prefer fragrance free lip products, hence this might be a con. The pigmentation is good, and one swipe gives good color payoff. Two swipes are enough to get a good finish. However multiple swipes might give a chalky look. The shade accentuates fine lines on my lips while other lipsticks in this range do not have this problem. This shade makes me look older too.

It has a semi-creamy finish which settles into a matte look soon. The staying power is decent. Without a liner I noticed some bleeding from the edges, but with a liner, it settles on the lips well. In fact, it survives light meals and drinks, and stays on for close to 4 hours. It doesn’t leave any stain. The lipcolor doesn’t dry out my lips neither des it moisturize or hydrate them. Considering the price of the product, I find it an average product. Elle 18 and Colorbar lippies are better at a lower price point. I was expecting a better lipstick. The shade was not a winner for me either, but I have good opinion about the range in general as some colors really steal the show.

Well considering the wide range of lipsticks out in the market, you can easily skip this one. I personally didn’t like the shade, hence won’t repurchase.

Doesn't qualify as a lively violet, not a universally flattering shade. Texture, pigmentation and color payoff is good. Staying power is decent.

The shade isn’t looking bad in your swatches Ahana. It is looking like a perfect lilac. But I have noticed this thing in this range. The color in the bullet and on lips is always different. :/

Yeah the shade names, color on the bullet and on the lips are so conflicting. But the finish is good.

I bought this lipstick last month and I soon realized that I’ve made a mistake.

Thanks Pallawi for saying this! I was thinking whether my piece was the only faulty one. This shade doesn’t justify the name ‘Lively Violet’. Something in the lines of a pinkish lilac would have been appropriate.
