My Experience with Maybelline Fit Me Foundation:

I think I share a love-hate relationship with this foundation.  I have had it with me for almost ten months now and I have used it on several occasions across many seasons, so I think I will be able to make up my mind about how I feel about it now.

For one, I love the chic glass bottle that it comes in. I believe that the UK version of this foundation comes with a pump (I’m not entirely sure, but I think it does). I have the US version of the bottle and it comes with a regular screw cap, which of course makes it harder to use. But I think the packaging looks sleek and classy.

I have the shade 315 (which I chose from the 18 shades available—the shade range is very impressive).  I would say that 315 is a close match to my skin, but is a little on the darker side (if you’re MAC NC 41-42, this will match you). The shades are divided into three categories for light, medium and tan skin, making it easier for you to select your shade. Additionally, the Fit Me range has corresponding concealers and face powders for the available foundation shades.

I was drawn to this foundation because of two reasons. The first being its wide shade range and the second being its gel-like, oil-free light and breathable formula. I was at that time looking for something that looked natural, dewy, provided medium coverage and didn’t clog my pores. This foundation totally seemed to fit the bill. I also loved the price and so I picked it up.

The formula is certainly lightweight and gel-like. It provides a natural, dewy finish to the skin. I would have liked it even more if the shade matched my skin better. However, it’s not too off the mark either, so I can make it work by mixing and blending. However, I don’t think I would recommend this if you have oily skin. Because then it might end up looking oily on your face (as the hours go by) rather than dewy. I think that this would suit dry, normal and combination skin the most.

On my dry to combination skin, I sometimes find that it begins to look sort of oily. That’s why I like to blot this foundation soon after applying it and definitely like to set it with powder.

The SPF content can lend this foundation a very slight and subtle whitish cast (not noticeable as such) that may show up in flash photography. I would recommend this more for daytime wear if you are going to be out all day and need something lightweight on your skin.

As far as coverage is concerned, I think that this is a light to medium coverage foundation that can be built up, but I would much rather wear this as a light base and use concealer over the imperfections that need coverage.

Although you can apply this and blend it in with your fingers, I prefer to go for a more even and flawless finish with my Real Techniques Expert Face Brush.

Finally, I don’t like that this foundation contains parabens. It makes me wear this one less often than I would otherwise.

Pros of Maybelline Fit Me Foundation:

  • Lightweight, gel-like formula that is oil-free and wax-free.
  • Provides natural looking light to medium coverage, but can be built up for more coverage.
  • Contains an SPF of 18.
  • Can be applied and blended in with fingers as well as with brush.
  • Wide range of shades available.
  • Packaging is sleek and classy.
  • Retails at a good price:

Cons of Maybelline Fit Me Foundation:

  • Contains parabens.
  • Some variants of the bottle don’t have a pump dispenser.
  • SPF content can result in slight whitish cast when using flash photography.
  • Can end up looking too dewy and somewhat oily on oily skin and if not set with powder.

My Verdict on Maybelline Fit Me Foundation:

If you are on a budget and need a dependable, natural-looking, easy-to-wear foundation, then this one is a really good bet. You’re very likely to find a good shade match.
