Maybelline Moisture Extreme Pure Plum

At the moment, there are two brands occupying the top two positions in my favourite lipstick category in terms of texture and choice of shades (no its not Colorbar). The two brands are NYX round lipsticks and Maybelline Moisture Extreme, mainly the Colorsensational ones. I absolutely adore and love and dream of these lipsticks every day because they are so pigmented, smooth, and release such a burst of moisture and color on the lips and are in a smooth, creamy, buttery form, which I exactly love. The cherry on the cake being the shades! They have the perfect shades for Indian skin tones and so many shade families like plums, browns, nudes, pinks.
They are so difficult to choose from, as many shades are so overlapping with just the undertones being different, like some would have a pink or maroon, but they look so similar in the tube. The packaging is not bad as well with a shiny slender curvy tube with corresponding color family like reds, plums, browns, etc. These lipsticks are so much fun and at the price of Rs. 225, it can’t get any better!
I don’t mind if these catch fungus and I need to throw them off as I have never finished a single lipstick and I do need to throw them away. So, enjoy it while it lasts because the market is flooding with choices waiting to be picked even before old lipsticks get over, but on the contrary, I haven’t had any problem with these as I store them in the fridge and they are so creamy that they may end soon and need to be re-applied as the cream finish doesn’t last.
The shade that I am reviewing today was like “always” an impulse buy and is NOT my type of shade. When I swatched it at Health and Glow, it looked something lighter, but the pigmentation being what it is it, turned out way darker than I expected. Moreover, I was expecting this to be a mauvy plum shade and not a maroon brown shade that it is.
It is a mix of medium brown and medium maroon shade, I won’t call it deep as I have seen deeper shades than these :silly:, but the color is whatsoever nice, but not made for me.
If I wear it, then it would stand out as a dark brown and not at all plum or mauve, not even maroon. Perhaps, my mom would like this shade as she applies lipstick very very gently and hardly anything shows up. Nevertheless, the texture is very creamy, pigmented, and the color is intense. It is very moisturising as well. The finish is mild gloss crème and not at all shimmery or frosty.
The packaging is red which is fine, looking at the maroon color, but the name says Plum:stars:, so I am very confused .
A Better Suggestion:
If you are into plums and mauves, get the dusky mauve one, which is lighter and very pretty and wearable. They look same in the picture, but the swatch will give the real pic. The dusky mauve shade has already been reviewed on IMBB.
Last Word:
No complaints with the lipstick as such, but the name is Plum and the lipstick is not err..Plum. Its a maroon brown, probably better suited for mature ladies. Staying power again is two hours due to its creamy texture. It looks so much lighter in the tube, but the pigmentation is superb and gives it so much color as you can see in the swatch. The lipsticks from this range will still be my favourite!!!!

I have dusky mauve too & I love it. I’ve seen this shade, but it’s too dark for me. I have the maximum number of lippies in this range – they’re some of my faves.

sometimes it happns with me too… testers are sometimes darker or lighter compared to original lippies… espcily in moisture extreme range it has happnd with me twice

Neha, I use this everyday to work. Shows up beautifully on my face, brightening it up.
Surprisingly the colour in your swatches doesn’t look similar to how it shows on me.. like a soft shade of pink. Guess it would have to do something with the complexion.. Thanks for the review. Looking forward to many more. 🙂
