Milani Shadow Eyes Pencil 12hr Pencil – 05 Aquatic Style

Milani  Shadow Eyes Pencil 12hr Pencil – 05 Aquatic Style

Hi girls!

Before I get to the review, I wanted to add something here, a lot of people ask me why “foreign” products not easily available in India are reviewed on an Indian blog . So if I may share my views on it, this is what I have to say in response to that. IMBB is a community, having spent time reading & discussing over various products, we have an idea of what to look for in a certain product. There is a common thread that runs across all reviews here, not only because we follow guidelines but also because we as a community have developed a similar sense of judging products.

If any of us come across a foreign product, we review it using the criteria that we know we seek in reviews. There by, we can make a list of products we can order from “foreign lands” when the opportunity presents itself. I had a huge list of products I had to get from US thanks to IMBB. When my mother visited earlier this year I got the chance to get them. So we do this to help each other out in terms of what products are worth it & what are not. It doesn’t matter where exactly they are physically available. This is an internationally accessible blog & Indians are there all over the world & can travel all over the world. Having the reviews here irrespective of country or brand can & will help any of us.

A few months back, my sister in US, saw these colorful pencils from Milani in a US store and purchased some and sent me 3 of these Milani Shadow Eyez 12 Hour Pencil. I always wanted to try these kind of jumbo pencil cream eyeshadows and finally got the chance! Here I talk about the blue one – 05 Aquatic Style. It is also available in 5 more colors – White, Brown, Champagne, Purple and Green.

Big and blendable 2-in-1 color rich pencil that can be used as shadow or liner. Creamy smooth, long-lasting, water-resistant, crease-proof and paraben-free formula. The next generation of shadows that you sharpen.Apply the pencil directly to the eyelid, then blend it out with your finger or a brush. After use, always replae the cap so the tip does not dry out. Easily sharpens with Milani’s Duo Sharpener.

How to Apply:

Tip: To extend the wear, apply your foundation or pressed powder on entire eyelid before applying your eye shadow. This eliminates any oils your lids may have which can cause your eye shadow to crease.

Ingredients:

Isododecane, Cyclopentasiloxane, Peg/Ppg-19/19 Dimethicone, Synthetic Wax, Hydrogenated Polydicyclopentadiene, Nylon-12, C20-40 Alcohols, Perfluorononyl Dimethicone, Polyglyceryl-4 Diisostearate/Polyhydroxystearate/Sebacate, Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Polyethylene, Pentaerythrityl Tetra-D-T-Butyl Hydroxyhydrocinnamate, Silica, Isoceteth-10, Tocopherol. +/- May Contain: Mica (CI 77019), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Manganese Violet (CI 77742), Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499), Yellow 5 Lake (CI 19140), Blue 1 Lake (CI 42090), Ferric Ferrocyanide (CI 77510), Carmine (CI 75470), Ultramarines (CI 77007).

My Experience with Milani – SHADOW EYEZ 12 HR PENCIL – 05 Aquatic Style:

Oh boy! Oh boy! What a pretty color! I love cream eyeshadows but only those that stay put & do not crease & this definitely does not crease. I have used this without any primer or without any eyeshadow over it & it lasted for over 11-12 hours. I was actually rather shocked by it. It feels deceivingly creamy even while it on for many hours & looks creamy but it does not crease. I think the main reason behind it is that it is very richly pigmented. You would only need 1 light handed swipe to get maximum color impact. The fact that a single very thin layer is needed must ensure that there is no creasing which would be caused by multiple layers of a creamy product and it doesn’t feel dry, like something is stuck on the eyelids, it feels like you have nothing on or a regular eyeshadow on.

The packaging is decent & the plastic cap sits well on it. Although I do not like sharpening such jumbo sticks, as we lose a lot of product while sharpening it! The color is a shimmery, true aqua blue. It has a tiny shimmers in it, it is not glittery. Even when you pat another matte blue eyeshadow over it, some of that shimmer does shine through.

On the eyelids, you can wear it all alone, all day long without a worry. But if you have very oily lids you may need to set this or use a primer under it. But then again first try it without a primer, it lasts for over 12 hours on my normal lids. So for oily ones I think it may last not as long as that but still decently enough.

On the waterline it is different story though. I applied it instead of a kajal and it lasted for around 3 hours more maybe more but then after that disappeared mostly. It just leaves behind a faint cast that says “oh, yes a blue color was here, but not so much anymore”. So next time I set it with a similar shade of eyeshadow and  it lasted all day.

In the swatch below, the left most is a single swipe, in middle is with multiple swipes and the right most it is blended out as much as possible.

On the eyes, I have it on without any other eyeshadow over it. I just paired it with a shimmery black beside it & if one is working fast, you can even blend the pencil with another powder color.

This swatch has just the Milani Aquatic Style & another black liner after 12+ hours of application. The Bobbi Brown Black Gel Liner on my lower water line started to fade but the eyeshadow wouldn’t budge.

Pros of Milani – SHADOW EYEZ 12 HR PENCIL – 05 Aquatic Style:

• Rich color pay off.
• Excellent range of colors.
• Does not budge from eyelids even after 12 hours!
• A bright aqua blue base for eyeshadows, that will compliment any blue eyeshadow over it.
• Can be safely used on the water line too.
• If set with a powder, stays on all day long.
• Eyeshadows adhere to it very well, even pigments.

Cons of Milani – SHADOW EYEZ 12 HR PENCIL – 05 Aquatic Style:

• By sharpening it, one would lose a lot of product.
• Disappears from the waterline after 3 hours or so. Needs to be set if using on waterline.

IMBB Rating:

4.5.5, because not available easily in India.

Will I recommend Milani – SHADOW EYEZ 12 HR PENCIL – 05 Aquatic Style?

If you can get your hands on it you should definitely give it a try. There are light as well as dark shades in this range & anyone is bound to find 1 that they love.

Will I repurchase Milani – SHADOW EYEZ 12 HR PENCIL – 05 Aquatic Style?

I have 3 colors in this range & I want the remaining 3! So I will surely try to purchase them all!
All said & done, it is a fantastic product. I enjoy using it especially on the waterline. I finally have a creamy product that shows up well enough there plus it works well as an eyeshadow base as well as eyeshadow too.

Hope you guys liked reading about this & happy Makeuping!
