My Basic Acne Care Routine and Products that REALLY Work

Skin type : Combination

Hello ladies!

Acne makes many of us worry a lot. So today, I am sharing my acne care routine with all. Honestly, I do not experiment a lot when it comes to skincare and do not have a very elaborate skin care routine either. I like to rely on basic and general products while taking help of home remedies to cure and support my skin. So let’s start the post; apologizing in advance for this super long post.

My Basic Acne Care Routine and Products that REALLY Work

My Acne Story:

I have been suffering from acne since 8th standard and now I am almost a graduate, which means almost 9-10 years. I got so disappointed with myself when my acne issue had just started. At that time, everyone told me that this is a sign that you are growing up, in short – puberty time. I thought this would end up soon. But I developed a very bad habit of picking on my pimples all the time.

Then, I developed dark brown scars all over my face. It started from my forehead And spread all across my face; which means acne was a huge issue for me. At the time of my school farewell, all my friends were trying to lose weight and taking care of their looks. But, I was planning to skip my school farewell as I was very disappointed with my looks.

Finally I decided to take seek some help. So I visited two to three dermatologists, and things started to look better. But my skin would look good only till the time I was on medicines, and after that it became more dull and damaged. Trust me, I went to the best doctors in Bhopal, Indore and Delhi too. I have even undergone salicylic acid peels; the first three peels were great as my skin had regained its glow. But after those 3 peels, my skin again started to become dull and I had rashes all over my face due to excessive peels. You can understand my situation!

Finally, I decided to take care of my skin in my own way. I had days when my skin would become really oily, and then days when it would become super dry with patches. I was so frustrated that I started to get hair fall too. Anyway, let me tell you about the products that worked for me:

1. Pond’s White Beauty Lightening Facial Foam

This was the first step I took – to stick to a basic face wash and cleansing routine. I know Pond’s has another light green colored face wash too which contains salicylic acid which works great for acne, but that one didn’t make any difference to my skin. I am loyal to this white beauty face wash for more than a year now and it has really helped me. Just when I get oily skin and pimples, I start to use this face wash regularly and the pimples automatically start drying and then fade with time. Also, this face wash makes my skin oil-free. I have tried many other face washes, but none has helped me cure my acne problem.

2. Dr. Reddy’s Acrofy Acne Lotion for Sebum Control

I have already reviewed this wonderful acne moisturizer on IMBB. Do check out the review as this is the best acne moisturizer I have ever come across. Cetaphil didn’t really work for me but this lotion has; I am in love with it. It helps to control sebum and also moisturizes at the same time. Using a moisturizer is compulsory for every skin type else you’ll ruin your skin’s elasticity. I know a lot of people suggest to stay away from moisturisers if you have oily or acne prone skin. But, believe me and grab this if you have acne issues.

3. Ayur Herbal Aloe Vera Astringent

astringent
I hardly know any other brand that provides astringents, and I completely rely on this astringent by Ayur. I have tried toners from Ayur but they could not impress me. The astringent from Ayur is really good and I use it every day after washing my face to make my skin free from bacteria, dirt and oil. Astringents are very important in your skin care regimen if you have acne prone skin.

4. Brevoxyl Cream

benzoyl peroxide
People who suffer from acne always tend to use a lotion that contains salicylic acid and also benzoyle peroxide; these ingredients play a major role in healing your acne scars. My dermatologist suggested me to use another benzoyl peroxide cream which was medicated but I switched to this one as it helped me to get rid of my acne scars really fast. This is available everywhere even in medical stores, but I suggest you to consult your doctor and then use it.

5. Vaseline Petroleum Jelly

vaseline
When you use acne creams and face washes on your skin, they take away your skin’s moisture too (along with oil and dirt), which in turn affects your lips too. My lips become really dry when I get on my acne skin care routine. So a lip balm is a must for all of us. I apply Vaseline on my lips all the time to protect them from drying. I love this basic multipurpose product.

If you are also facing the same issues like me, then trust me, medical help is only going to heal till you take medicines. Hence, it is better to take care of yourself with basic products. I would also like to share some home care remedies and at-home care tips :
• While using cotton balls on your face, make sure you pat them on your skin. Do not rub them all over your skin as it would give you more pimples.
• When you get a new zit or pimple, start applying a mint toothpaste or ice cubes.
• Always take your makeup off as soon as possible and stick to limited products.
• Wash your face at least twice a day.
• Pimples would automatically vanish if you don’t squeeze them, but acne scars require patience.
• Use rose water and lemon to remove makeup and as a toner too; avoid using heavy creams and oils.

Home Remedies:

• I often make a pack using curry leaves, aloe vera gel and turmeric to heal my acne. It really works as all these three ingredients provide all the benefits. I use this pack once a week. In between, I keep a two days’ gap and apply raw honey all over my face. Honey has antibacterial properties and it gives you an instant glow and makes your skin soft and supple too. You can use Patanjali aloe vera gel which is completely herbal and apply it regularly as a moisturizer if you do not have time for home remedies.
• I tried taking steam on my face but that made my skin more dry, so I don’t experiment a lot. I take monthly fruit clean-ups to keep my blackheads and whiteheads at bay.

Hope that this post was helpful.

But I would like to add some useful home remedy to this. ☺
Use of baking soda and lemon can really be helpful when the pimple is fresh. Also the baking soda n lime paste fades the acne scars if used twice a week.
