Neutrogena Skin Clearing Mineral Powder Review

Neutrogena Skin Clearing Mineral Powder Review

Hey beautiful people,

How are you doing today? I am here to share my latest budget-friendly mineral powder from Neutrogena which works good on my oily and acne-prone skin.  I can compare it to Tarte Mineral Pressed Powder for the shine-free result and fine finishing that it gives except for the fact that Tarte is talc and paraben free and works amazingly on my skin while Neutrogena lacks these good points! So, please read on further to know more about Neutrogena Skin Clearing Mineral Powder.

Skin Clearing Mineral Powder works quickly to treat and help prevent breakouts blemishes without the dryness or flakiness of other acne treatments. Oil-free. Non-comedogenic. Gentle, non-irritating. Dual-sided applicator gives the perfect level of coverage. MicroClear technology treats and helps prevent breakouts!

Packaging:

This finely milled powder is enclosed inside a sturdy plastic packaging with in-built mirror and dual-sided sponge applicator. The orange side of applicator claims to give heavy coverage while white side is considered to be good for sheer coverage. Overall, tight fitted and travel-friendly stuff.  It is available in 8 shades covering every fair/light/medium and tan skin.  I opted for “Classic Ivory,” which is the closest match for my skin tone.

My Experience with Neutrogena Skin Clearing Mineral Powder:

I like Neutrogena and incorporate their skin care products in my skin care regimen every now and then.  These products are really good and fairly priced.  Recently, after using their face makeup products, I like their makeup stuff as well – for the finish and fair results they have on my skin (if not for their formulation).  In terms of finishing and results, they should be considered as good alternate options for a few high-end makeup products, to be frank!

Talking about this mineral powder, it’s formulated with talc and hence it is slightly bothering for me, but upon using it on a regular basis, I couldn’t find any issue so far.  It might be a major con for many gals with sensitive skin.  It is a finely milled powder which does not look chalky or cakey on my face irrespective of its coverage.  The sponge applicator is really decent and picks up the right amount of product and gives me desired finishing, though I don’t like how it feels on my skin and usually prefer using Sephora Mineral Powder brush.  It slightly blurs my prominent pores without sinking in, but it does not conceal my blemishes and does not hide my zits.  I feel more comfortable using it as a touch up with brush rather than using the heavy orange-sided applicator as it would not look cakey anyway, but it does not give me enough coverage though absorbs oil and delivers shine free and matte skin for good hours!

Neutrogena Skin Clearing Mineral Powder

It does not give me any luminous effect, just enhances my skin tone by removing excess shine from the face and I get shine-free and fresh skin for 5-6 hours irrespective of using it over primer or alone over moisturizer which is really impressive. I just feel that its skin clearing claims are more or less exaggerated as I do not notice any reduction in my previous blemishes.  It certainly has helped me in preventing future break outs, but that credit also goes to my decent skin care regimen, not just this powder alone, you know what I mean? The way it gives me natural and shine-free, fresh skin, I feel it’s pretty good and can be considered in place of other high-end face powders!

I think it can be best used as a regular face powder to get shine-free results rather than using as a product to clear skin or to provide heavy coverage.  It contains salicylic acid, hence it might be a boon for oily/combination skin, but it is a nay for dry/sensitive skin. I would definitely recommend this mineral powder to every oily/combination skin beauty who is blessed with naturally good skin and for someone who just wishes to clear excess oil.  It will definitely please you as it controls oil for a good 5-6 hours irrespective of using it over moisturizer or primer. Beauties with problematic skin may try it over foundation for desired shine-free finish as it alone does not give sufficient coverage and it is not going to treat acne or blemishes.

Let’s sum up pros and cons:

Pros of Neutrogena Skin Clearing Mineral Powder:

  • A finely-milled mineral powder infused with salicylic acid which is great for oily/combination skin.
  • The dual-sided sponge applicator helps with sheer and heavy coverage; however, does not provide heavy coverage.
  • It can be used alone for fresh and oil-free skin as well as over primer/foundation for great results.
  • It definitely keeps oil at bay for a good 5-6 hours without drying  or irritating my skin.
  • It blurs my prominent pores up to some extent without clogging them or sinking in which is impressive.
  • Does not look chalky or cakey on my skin.
  • Does not accentuate the fine lines around the eyes or on the skin.
  • It gives a feeling of naturally clean and enhanced skin tone, but does not highlight or brighten up my face, just soaks oil and enhances my natural skin tone.
  • It is pretty affordable, travel friendly and budget friendly.

Cons of Neutrogena Skin Clearing Mineral Powder:

  • Contains talc and parabens.
  • Does not provide heavy coverage, even with the orange applicator side.
  • The skin clearing claims are exaggerated, I cannot see any improvement on my blemishes, though it does not accentuate my skin issues further thankfully.
  • I do not like touch of its sponge applicator and prefer blending in with sephora mineral powder brush which definitely helps in super fast blending

Overall, I feel it’s a pretty decent and fairly priced mineral powder, which definitely helps with oil control for good hours and it is really good for oily skin with minimal issues! I just wish they had not made the tall claims of giving heavy coverage and clearing zits and blemishes.  Because of that, I would give this product 3/5. Otherwise, this is a decent face powder and taking into account its shine control property, I would give it 4/5.
