NYX Butter Lipstick – Pops Explosif Review

Hey peeps! Today I am reviewing the NYX Butter Lipstick in the shade Pops. The NYX Butter range has lip glosses and lip balms and this is my first pick from the lipstick range. I absolutely adored the butter glosses; in my opinion one of the best glosses I have ever seen. The lip balms too were great. Really pigmented for a balm, but not super moisturising. Nevertheless, loved both! I didn’t know what to expect with this lipstick, so read on to know what I felt. 🙂

My Experience with NYX Butter Lipstick – Pops Explosif:

The lipstick comes in a traditional bullet packaging, the colour of the lipstick case is the shade of the lipstick itself so, it is super easy to pick this one out when you need it. I think just for this reason, I reach out to it more often, especially when I don’t want to think of the colour I am picking.

The lipstick is very buttery to touch and glides when I swatch on my hands. It is a creamy finish with no sparkle or shimmer. I would not call it matte/flat, since it kind of looks glisteny, but I think you’d understand. When I apply, it smoothes right on, but sometimes settles into lines when I don’t exfoliate. It does not moisturize/dry out my lips. I don’t need a lip balm or anything and my lips don’t crave for moisture. But it is not exactly hydrating. I think the name butter lipstick corresponds to the texture and not the level of hydration.

The lipstick also has a weird “chemically” smell. I don’t like it but it fades away and isn’t very pronounced. I am personally okay with it since it fades away soon. If this bothers you at all, beware. However, it does not have a taste.

The shade is called “Pops Explosif”. On the site, it is described as “mauve”. On me it is a n*de-pink. Definitely not an MLBB nude, but this is a cooler toned one than I am used to. On the warmer side, there’s MAC Mocha and Maybelline Maple Kiss, and this is a cooler neutral. Initially, I thought it looked weird, but after a couple of times, I loved it. In some lights, it looks more pinkish and that looks nice as well. I wear it with any normal everyday eye look, and I also wear it when I want a neutral lip that doesn’t look washed out.

Color wise, it is really similar to Maybelline Lip Polish in glam 13. I feel like this is the lipstick version of that lip gloss. I have put both of them in the swatch, you can check out how similar they are. Glam 13 has a tad bit more warmth to it I guess.

Pros of NYX Butter Lipstick – Pops Explosif:

• Smooth and creamy.
• Not drying, but then again, not hydrating.
• Good packaging.
• Very inexpensive.
• Good pigmentation.
• Nice everyday shade.

Cons of NYX Butter Lipstick – Pops Explosif:

• Highlights imperfections on lips, exfoliation is a must.
• Has a slightly weird smell.

Would I recommend NYX Butter Lipstick – Pops Explosif?
Overall, a good collection from a trusty brand, NYX. I like it a lot as an alternative n*de. There are loads of great shades in this collection. Do check it out. I have my eyes on Hunk. It’s really easy on the pocket so great to try out some shades.
