This review will be on NYX High Voltage Lipstick in the shade “#20 Burlesque.” I got four shades in this range – the others being Rags to Riches, Rockstar, and Wine and Dine.

The lipstick bullet comes in a sleek plastic tube wrapped in a plastic sheet. The lower body is black color and the upper body is in the color of the shade it represents. The cap is of transparent plastic which I think could have been of better quality. One has to be careful while handling these lipsticks as I believe the cap won’t survive any fall. Also, the lipstick bullet comes a bit above the brim and so one has to be careful while opening and closing down the cap. The number is written at the bottom of the bullet and the name is mentioned on the body of the lipstick; the packaging is not so travel friendly.

My Experience with NYX High Voltage #20 Burlesque Lipstick:

“Burlesque” looks a lot brown in the bullet, but actually, it’s a gorgeous brick red shade. I like such shades as they instantly brighten up your face. A girl can never have enough red lipsticks and such reds are always welcome into our growing stash.

This shade is totally a party color. Although you can rock it completely during the day time, I personally feel it to be a bit loud for office environment. Actually, I did wear this one to the office, but had to blot it out with a tissue paper a number of times to tone it down a bit. The texture of the lipstick is super buttery and it is very evident from the bullet itself. It looks buttery in the bullet also.

I would advise to be careful during application as the bullet looks very soft. It glides on the lips with no efforts at all. There is absolutely no tugging or pulling. Because these lipsticks are overly creamy, they tend to crumble if the lips are not exfoliated properly.

There are no shimmers in this shade. Also, it is not very glossy. But the finish is neither overtly matte nor too glossy. It has this perfect balance in between being matte and glossy. This shade is not very moisturizing, but at the same time, not too drying either. I generally use a lip balm always, but someone who does not have dry lips would not need a lip balm.

The pigmentation is super awesome and truly, it’s a high voltage lipstick – one swipe and you get the desired color. This shade does not require multiple applications as it already is strongly pigmented.  Layering feels a bit heavy and sticky. The shade gives a good opaque coverage to the lips and will cover all pigmentation.

The staying power is around 5-6 hours after which it starts to fade away, but leaves a strong reddish tint to the lips. Remember to be very careful while application as you would not want stains around your face that will require a makeup remover to get rid of. It does transfer to cutlery and would need re-application after meal.

This lipstick is not completely waterproof, but would require a makeup remover to get off completely.

This color will make you look like a diva for night-out and parties.

• Soft bullet, can break if used harshly.
• Transfers a bit to cutlery.
• Not waterproof.
• Too much layering feels heavy and a bit sticky.
• Packaging could have been better.
• Not very travel friendly as the cap is bound to open in the bags.
• Availability in India.

Yes definitely.
