NYX Illuminator Ritualistic Review

NYX was initially available mostly online or in Ulta stores. Since the past one year, I am able to find them in every CVS drugstore too. Just like Physician’s Formula, it is a higher end drugstore brand. The packaging is good; product quality is good and still is on the affordable side. Here, I am going to review ‘NYX illuminator in Ritualistic’.

Price :
$9 (approxiamately INR 540)

Packaging:

It is a black circular plastic case. The plastic used is strong and closes with a ‘click’ sound. On the top cover ‘NYX – illuminator’ is printed. At the back of this cover, a decent size mirror is given. The product weighs around 9.5gm and is embedded in thick plastic base. At the back of the base name details, instructions, weight etc. other details are mentioned. It has no applicator provided. The case has a glossy finish. It is quite thick about 2 cm, which gives it a bulky look, still it is comfortable to travel with.

Texture:
The product is soft smooth and has a slip. There are a lot of filers in it like Magnesium stearate, talc etc. these fillers improve the texture but actual product content reduces due to that. Just for information sake also, when I checked ingredient list on Ulta website it did not mention any filler but on the NYX cosmetics website, the ingredient list is different. Either one of them is wrong.

The product is not dry or powder-like. There is very little or no spillage at times on hitting the product with a brush. Best way to use the product is with a fan brush. It is certainly blend-able. If more glow is required, it can be built up easily too. There is no scent to it. The shimmer particles are fine and not visible. It is transferred on my skin evenly and leaves the skin and my fingers with a little glow.

 

Pigmentation:
This shade is a light cream color shade. On taking a swatch, it appears to be chalky but on blending it gives a subtle, natural glow. This chalk-like appearance might be due to Titanium dioxide in the composition. This compound will cause flashback too while taking photographs, so beware!! Titanium oxide used does not give you sun protection according to the product claim.
This is a daytime highlighter, which will give your face high points a very soft sheen.

I like the look it has. You have to use it with a light hand as a lot of product might pack on the brush/finger. In the picture of the swatch and the blended product, it looks white but as it blends, the glow can be seen easily. The finger swatch photograph was taken after I transferred the product on my wrist.

Staying power:
This product stays on for whole day. My day is for 8-9 hours, which is a good wear time for me. It is a daily wearable item and not luxury party item so this much is sufficient. But you can amp it up with setting spray, MAC fix plus etc. to serve for party purpose.

Would you recommend NYX Illuminator – Ritualistic to everyone?
Personally yes, I will recommend the product for a budget highlighter. Looking at the wide availability in India as well (NYX in Sephora) it should not be a problem to get your hands on this product. This brand is currently cruelty-free so for those people who prefer this option, it’s a good product.
